Dr Lissauer was one of three doctors I had consultations with in nyc and I had no doubt he was the best fit. This was my first cosmetic surgery. He put me at ease and his office made the entire experience easy and first class. They arranged for a private nurse to stay with me the first night to ice me and manage the prescriptions. Even when I had a scary snafu (accidentally pulled out a stitch on day 3 while brushing my hair (!) he put me right at ease and was instantly available by phone to reassure me - despite being off hours - and had me into the office as his first appt. Worth every penny!
I went to Dr Lissauer for help after I was left with uneven, puffy, lumpy under-eyes after a bad lower lid blepharoplasty. I looked worse than I did before the procedure. I truly thought I would never happily look in the mirror again. Or feel comfortable taking my glasses off. I had seen other doctors and was told they couldn’t help me. They said there could be scar tissue and excess filler from previous injections that would make the procedure more difficult. I did not know where to turn. And then I found Dr Lissauer. He was so kind and understanding from the moment I met him. I’m pretty sure I cried at that first visit. He told me he could help. He said he would do another blepharoplasty. He did not know exactly what he would find during the procedure but reassured me that the result would be an improvement. Perhaps not a 100% correction. But a significant improvement. Well my expectations were met and exceeded. I feel wonderful and I haven’t looked this good in years. The procedure was out-patient and didn’t take very long. My recovery was easy and painless. He was available by phone to answer questions. .At each and every follow up appointment Dr Lissauer encouraged me and reassured me. He monitored my progress for almost a year. I am so thankful to him. I recommend him highly!
Dr. Boaz J Lissauer was masterfully thorough. He removed a skin tag from my eyelid, very close to the eye, effortlessly. I arrived to the pristine office and was warmly met by the kind staff, with no wait. Dr. Lissauer explained all laymens terms clearly and concisely. I highly recommend Dr. Lissauer to anyone.
I’m writing this review one year after Dr. Lissauer performed a bilateral upper and lower lid blepharosplasty. If any surgery, including elective cosmetic surgery, could be considered a positive experience, then I would have to say this surgery was – not only because of the way I look but the way I feel. Dr. Lissauer was the second plastic surgeon I had interviewed and when I walked out of his office, I knew that I had found the surgeon to perform the procedure. He has a very professional and low key manner but also a caring manner and he listened to my concerns – because I had a lot of concerns. He also explained that his goal was to make me look “refreshed.” That was my goal, too. Dr. Lissauer suggested that I think about the operation and if I wanted to talk about it again, to come back. I did so -– came back about 5 months later and scheduled the operation for several months after that. Fast forward to the day of the operation – Dr. Lissauer made sure I was comfortable and the operation proceeded without any complications. There was no real pain and only very minor discomfort during the recuperation period of about 2 weeks. By the time I returned to work (after 2 weeks) the swelling and discoloration were mostly gone. I would be remiss if I didn’t add that Sarah of the doctor’s office also made this experience a positive one. She troubleshooted my questions before the procedure and during the recuperation period and helped me with the paperwork that was needed.
I always wanted to address my eyelids because they aged much faster than the rest. I was very surprised at how easy things went with Dr. Lissauer. The downtime from the procedure was minimal, less than 1 week and 3.5 months out, no one would ever know I had anything done. His work is truly perfection!
Hello Mary,From your picture, it looks like you have ptosis of the left upper eyelid. Depending on the function of the levator muscle (muscle responsible for raising the eyelid) and what prior procedures you have had done, there are options to repair the eyelid and greatly improve your symmetry. However, if you are only two weeks out from your procedure, it would be recommended to wait and allow your eyelid to heal before entertaining further repair. Discuss this with your surgeon, as he/she might be able to correct this.
Ptosis refers to drooping of the upper eyelid. Eyelid position is a very complex mechanism, it is determined by the shape of the eye and face, function of the muscles that lift the eyelid, vision, height of the oppposite eyelid, and an intact nervous system. From your pictures, it appears as if you have ptosis of the left upper eyelid, which can affect the right upper lid crease depending on how droopy the left upper lid becomes during the day and as you get tired. The most important thing would be to first determine the cause of the drooping eyelid because there are certain medical conditions that can change the eyelid position, that are treated medically not surgically. Once the cause has been established, if surgical correction is desired, the eyelid can be lifted into the optimal postion to improve the symmetry and improve the lid crease height on the opposite eyelid. A good place to start is with an evaluation by an ophthalmologist to give you a complete eye exam, then to surgical specialist, such as an oculoplastic surgeon (an ophthalmologist who trains in plastic surgery as it pertains to the eyes and face) who performs ptosis surgery.
Botox can work extremely well for crow's feet but what about smile lines in the lower eyelid area? Well that depends. Lower eyelid smile lines are caused when the powerful muscles that elevate the corners of the mouth up pull the cheeks up thereby creasing the lower eyelid skin and muscle. Many younger patients develop this because the eyelid skin is the thinnest in the body. If there is associated hollowing of the lower eyelid, the smile lines can look more prominent. So how does a physician determine weather Botox will be a good option for the lower eyelid? If the lines are not deep and do not extend over the cheek area, then a few low dose well-placed injections into the lower eyelid can soften the lines significantly. However, you can develop problems if not injected correctly, such as a drooping lower eyelid or worse, double vision. For advanced botox injections around the eyes, your physician should have extensive experience in injecting this area. From your picture, you would most likely benefit from botox and adding a filler to the hollows beneath the eyes, such as Restylane or Juvederm.
Asian blepharoplasy aims to create a low, natural lid crease that contours to the shape of the lid margin and gives the eyelid more definition. Healing time in an 18 year old would not be dramatically different than someone in their 30's or 40's. In fact younger patients can still develop more inflammation than their older counterparts as the immune system can be more aggressive. Generally, young men and women undergoing an Asian blepharoplasty can expect the initial bruising to dissipate in 10-14 days after surgery. Swelling and redness generally will remain for 4-6 weeks as the new eyelid crease height retains fluid in the area. One month would be possible, but many patients will still have some swelling and require more time for the optimal cosmetic result.
Asian eyelid surgery is very unique from non-Asian eyelid surgery. The Anatomy of the Asian eyelid is such that the lid crease is very low down on the eyelid, or the crease is not even formed. Many Asian patients request to have a lid crease created, termed a "double eyelid" procedure. However, it is very important not to place the eyelid crease too high or the Asian eyelid looses it's unique features. You cannot tell six days after surgery what the final eyelid crease height will be, it is too soon. The eyelid crease height will fluctuate for four to six weeks after surgery depending on the amount of postoperative bleeding, swelling, type of procedure, even the types of sutures used. Contact your surgeon and discuss what you are feeling. This might all be normal given it is very early in the postoperative period.
