Is it normal to have puffy nipples months after a breast augmentation?

Thank you for your question.  The puffiness that you have is most likely a result of swelling from surgery.  If you are more than a half year post-op though, you should be seen in person by your operating surgeon to determine what is the underlying cause of your nipples being puffier post-operatively.All the best,Dr. ResultsMiami, FL

It is common for aureolas to swell and nipples to be perky after breast augmentation. The nerves posterior to the nipple aureolas are stimulated by the implants, causing swelling and causing them to stick out. This sometimes resolves on its own. Silicone round sheets can be applied to your aureolas to flatten them and help them calm down. See your plastic surgeon for his advice, sometimes after a year a periarola procedure may be considered, if it persists and it is bothersome to you. Enjoy your new shape and good luck...

It can take your new breasts 3-6 months to fully heal and "settle" down. Also, depending on the size of your implants, the skin in area around you nipple may have stretched. Still, since it's bothering you, why not make an appointment to speak with your operating surgeon? If only to put your fears to rest.  

Hello and congratulations on your breast augmentation. It is not uncommon for the nipples and areola to change after breast enlargement. I suggest that you see your surgeon and have an examination. Depending on how long your are out from surgery some residual swelling could also play a role. Good luck...

Thank you for your question.  Just like the skin and soft tissue swell from augmentation, so do the nipples.  I recommend close followup with your plastic surgeon.   All the best.

Thank you for your inquiry.  There may be some swelling or puffy appearance to the nipple-areolar area after a Breast Augmentation which may last for varying periods of time.  The swelling may be more prominent and last for a longer period of time if the incision was around the areola.Be patient and follow up with your Plastic Surgeon.John J Obi, MD

Having said that, yes if you have young thick skin you may see some dilation and puffiness of the areolas. It does tend to correct over time.I hope you found this helpful. Have a great day.

Without posted photos ver hard to advise. Healing could take a few months but only in person opinions allow a definitive response. 

Nipples may be puffy for quite some time, especially in women who underwent a lift with an enlargement. Most will go down in time, but some may take several months. Also, areolae, the colored area around your nipples, may stretch as the breasts are enlarged, either with weight gain, pregnancy, or implants. Most nipples, per se, do not enlarge with just a breast augmentation. I would suggest going back to your surgeon and discussing all your concerns.
