Tummy tuck 3 days ago, today, vaginal swelling. Is this normal?

Hi.  It is fairly normal to get swelling of the labia and vaginal area after a tummy tuck and liposuction.  If you have pain as well it is certainly reasonable to touch base with your surgeon to sort through things.  Pain there is not unusual, but depending on your symptoms could also indicate something else, like a urinary tract infection, or yeast infection.  Good luck and take care, Dr. Howell

Swelling after tummy tuck often worse after 2-3 days than initially, and swelling in the pubic region is normal.  Unless you become unable to urinate, or there are signs of infection (redness, fever, increasing pain), I would not be concerned.  It all sounds normal.

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear of your vaginal swelling.  This is a common symptom after a tummy tuck as gravity will have a tendency of causing the more dependent areas of your body to swell, especially as the surgery interrupts many of the connections your body uses to reduce swelling.  As your activity level increases you will also see some worsening of this swelling.  Use of compression garments can often improve these symptoms until your body has fully healed.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question and congratulations on your recent surgery. You should expect to have swelling for three to six months following your tummy tuck surgery. It is quite common to have vaginal swelling. Use of a properly fitted compression garment will help decrease the length and severity of the post-operative swelling. As the swelling decreases, the contour of your abdomen, flanks, and hips will dramatically improve. Please follow your plastic surgeons specific advice regarding your level of physical activity. Congratulations on having undergone the tummy tuck procedure. Some degree of pubic and/or genitalia swelling is quite commonly seen after this type of surgery.  In other words, what you are experiencing is most likely normal. It is completely normal to have swelling in the vaginal area post liposuction and tummy tuck. This is just how gravity works. It will correct itself overtime as the swelling moves out of your body. Do not be surprised if bruising moves downward as well.
