I want to get a tummy tuck but I don't know if me being a diabetic will disqualify me .
Answer: Can a diabetic person have a tummy tuck? A diabetic person can have a tummy tuck as long as the blood sugars are controlled, meaning the Hemoglobin A1C is normal or near normal. It is important to note that even when that value is normal, diabetics still have more complications than non-diabetics. Diabetics have higher risks of wound healing problems and a higher risk of infection.in addition, diabetics have a higher chance of losing blood supply to areas that were operated on. This means that diabetics are more prone to areas of skin death. If your blood sugar is well-controlled and you have the right surgeon, you are still likely to have a great outcome!

Answer: Can a diabetic person do a tummy tuck surgery? Yes, a diabetic person can get a tummy tuck. It is imperative that your sugars are well controlled. I do tummy tucks on diabetics if their blood work and EKG is normal and their internist clears them for surgery. It is important to control the sugars tightly postoperatively as well to minimize healing issues. In some of my diabetic patients, I noticed that after a TT and liposuction, their insulin requirements decreased significantly. See a board certified plastic surgeon for an in person consultation, evaluation. Good luck.

Answer: Diabetes and Plastic Surgery Hello,Yes you can, but you need to be in good control of your blood sugar. Hemoglobin A1C levels is the best indicator of post operative complications, and keeping it below 6% is ideal.Best of luck!

Answer: Can a diabetic person do a tummy tuck surgery. Diabetes that is well controlled should not be a contraindication to a tummy tuck. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Before undergoing surgery you should have medical clearance from your primary physician and/or endocrinologist and he or she should discuss any specific management aspects of your diabetes with your plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist. Patients with diabetes can have a slightly higher rate of delayed healing or infection. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Can a diabetic person do a tummy tuck surgery. Thank you for the question.Well controlled diabetes is not a contraindication to tummy tuck surgery and/or other elective plastic surgical procedures. Always best to check with your primary care physician or endocrinologist for “medical clearance” prior to surgery. Managing your diabetic medications around the time of surgery (to avoid hypo as well as hyperglycemia), while you will have altered oral intake, will be important. You may find the attached link, dedicated to breast augmentation surgery concerns, helpful to you.Best wishes.
