How long until I can wear make up after Voluma upper cheek?

Question

Hi, I'm due to get Voluma into my upper cheeks next Tuesday evening, however I have an event i need to attend less than 24 hours after my appointment, please could you tell me if I can wear make up over the injection site the next day? The voluma is being injected using a cannula, which I understand has less impact on the face. Many Thanks in advance :-)

You don’t really need to wait for more than a couple of hours to apply makeup after Voluma injections. Try not to massage your face while applying the makeup, however; use a gentle touch with your hands and brushes. Be sure to consult a board-certified dermatologist who  is an expert at rejuvenating the face with dermal fillers.

Thank you for this often asked question.  The textbook answer to your question is:  makeup can be applied to an area safely 12 hours after a Voluma injection.  If you want to be super safe, use a new jar, new applicator, new sponge, new brush when putting makeup on an area that has been recently injected.  If you do this, and you were my patient, I would tell you:  3 hours after injection would be appropriate.To get the best results from Voluma or any other facial injection, seek out a Board Certified plastic surgeon with excellent reviews.  Choose someone who cares what you look like after the injection.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  I ask patients to avoid any makeup or skin care product application to sites of treatment for 4 hours.  Makeup the day after treatment will be fine.  Hope this helps.

Although you may see some swelling and bruising immediately after getting JUVÉDERM Voluma®, light makeup the next day should not be an issue. Injection with a cannula may minimize these side effects. I tell my patients that they should see their final results by about 2 weeks. Be sure to let your injector know your plans and see if they have any specific recommendations or suggestions for you.

I advise my patients to wait at least 4 hours before applying makeup after filler injections to give the skin time to heal and reduce the risk of infection. Even though the risk is small, better safe than sorry. You should be fine the next day. Good luck!

Hi,This is a great question especially with a microcannula.  Since the track of a microcannula is quite far and the entry point larger, it is necessary to thoroughly clean and sterilely prep the area prior to injection.  There have been recent reported cases of Voluma being infected by makeup so we clean again once more after injection and ask that patients avoid makeup for the rest of the day.  The entry point should be closed within several hours but to be safe, we recommend avoiding makeup until the next day.Warmly,Dr. Liu

After any filler treatment it is important to keep the skin clean while the needle-marks heal in order to reduce the risk of infection. Although very rare, infection around a filler would be very unpleasant.
Official advice suggests avoiding makeup for 12 hours, but probably it is quite safe to do so after 4 hours. Certainly by the next day as in your case you will be fine.
