I’ve always wanted to know if my breasts were tuberous or not because I see a lot of images online of tuberous breasts but I don’t entirely relate to the images I see. I want to be able to breast feed in the future but I heard tuberous breasts cannot or they do not supply enough milk. If that’s true and I do have tuberous breasts and I won’t be able to breastfeed I would like to opt for a breast augmentation. I would just appreciate some insight on wether or not my breasts are tuberous.

Answer: Mild constriction to the breasts Hello! Based on your photos alone it appears you have some constriction of the breast tissue towards the areolas. Whether or not you have some mild tuberocity or whether or not you opt for breast augmentation will not affect whether or not you will be able to breast feed in the future. For more information click the link attached. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. During this time many surgeons including myself are doing virtual consultations at a reduced cost. Best of luck in your journey!

Answer: Not tuberous from the pictures posted. Breastfeeding ability is not usually related to shape or surgery. Will I be able to breastfeed after I get breast implants? In most cases, a breast augmentation will not interfere with breastfeeding. That’s because the milk ducts are generally not disturbed during the procedure when implants are placed through an incision under the breast. However, not all women are naturally able to breastfeed, whether or not they have cosmetic breast surgery. In my experience, women who were able to breastfeed before surgery were still able to breastfeed after and regardless of their shape.Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and AuthorRealSelf Distinguished Hall of Fame Inductee

Answer: Tuberous or Not? Able to Breast Feed Great question. Your breasts are entirely normal in appearance: a little more "puffiness" of the tissue beneath the areola than average but certainly not tuberous. A woman's ability to breast feed is not directly related to breast size or shape. You should anticipate that your ability to breast feed is the same as any other woman. The one thing that could reduce your ability to breast feed would be to have the breast tissue scored from behind in an unnecessary attempt to "fix" the shape of your breasts. Please see the attached link where mildly tuberous breasts were corrected by me by simply reducing the areola (no cutting from behind of breast tissue) as well as placement of implants. You are certainly a candidate for breast implants if you want them, but aesthetically my recommendation would be to leave the areola alone.Best of luck,Dr. Romanelli
