Breast lift incision separation; is it infected? (photos)

From your photographs, the wound does not look to be infected.  Twice daily dressing changes are a very acceptable treatment protocol.  Keep in close contact with your PS and call immediately with and acute changes or concerns.  Best of luck.

Based solely on your photos, the wound doesn't look infected. Your surgeon's wound protocol is good. Just follow his or her advise to the letter and keep in close contact. These things take time to heal but they also need to be assessed in person. My best,

Your best bet would be to continue following your surgeon's instructions for care of the wound. If the separation doesn't appear to be getting any better you would be best off seeing your surgeon in person again to see what other options may be available to treat the wound. Good luck.

Thank you for your question and photos.  No online reviewer can diagnose or make treatment recommendations.  I'm sorry to see that the wound is opening up.  Signs of infection include increased pain, redness, drainage and odor.  Your surgeon will be the one to diagnose infection and to determine the appropriate course of action.  Many times wound care and time is all that is needed.  Once this has healed and the tissues matured (four to six months or longer) one could consider scar revision.  Until then keep in contact with your surgeon.  

Thanks for your post, and I'm sorry you are having problems. Though we don't like seeing a wound like this w/ some separation, particularly when an implant has been placed, I think does not look deep and will likely go onto heal on its own. You may need to have the final scar revised to make it look better once it's all settled down. Best wishes.

Hi, lilyreyBased on your photos, your incision does not appear to be infected.Burning sensation is not uncommon with breast augmentation.  It should improve with time.Once incision has dehisced, it may take 1-2 weeks to heal.Please continue following your plastic surgeon's wound care instruction and follow up with him/her closely to monitor the progress.Best regards.

From what I can see in your photo's , it does not appear infected .  This is can happen with this type of surgery due to the tension with the implant involved as well.  Keep doing what your Dr. has recommended and continue your visits with your PS until it's resolved.

It is hard to make a diagnosis of infection in an open wound based only upon photos, so close follow up with your surgeon, and continued local wound care is in order. Since there are implants, the possibility of infection cannot be ignored. I don't see anything too alarming in the photos. The first day the separation was beginning, and after that the next photos look quite similar.Best wishes. 

Thank you for the question and photos.  Sorry to hear about your breast lift healing.  The combination of augmentation and breast lift sometimes stresses the tissue at the incision edge too much and wound separation may occur.  When this happens it is often best to continue with general wound care as suturing the tissue will just stress out the incision area even more.  Once full healing has occurred a scar revision can be performed.  This is usually the best course of action.  Hang in there.  Everything will be fine in the long run.All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
