I got an under chin neck lift smonths ago and have since had these deep lines. I got a revision at three months and these lines reappeared after the bulk of the inflammation susided. It was mentioned that I was bleeding excessively during surgery and had a hematoma a week later which could have caused this. Am I going to have this for the rest of my life?? I wear a bandaid everyday and has altered my life drastically. The procedure was six months ago.
Answer: Neck Lines This may or may not improve overtime. Liposuction procedures in the neck in patients with excess skin can create problems that can only be repaired with a necklift. This is particularly true if there is a further problem such as hematoma, which can cause excessive scarring and persistent edema of the area. I recommend seeing a plastic surgeon who has completed at least 6 years of plastic surgery training (ideally 7 if an aesthetic fellowship was completed).

Answer: Need to come in to consult For unique cases where a variety of modalities could be used to treat the condition, I would suggest an in-person or virtual consultation to develop a custom and effective treatment plan. It is difficult to precisely define the best option without collecting the same information. I suggest reaching out to an expert for a consultation with surgical and non-surgical methods to get a comprehensive option. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Neck lift no face lift correct? From your comments, I assume you had an isolated neck lift without an associated face lift. One of the difficulties in this procedure is the vector to suspend the skin and muscles, because there is no face lift component, many times surgeons have to stretch the skin behind the ears in a horizontal vector, without being able to lift the skin superiorly and vertically, and this is what creates these lines. I believe if you did a combined face and neck lift the surgeon could suspend the skin vertically and reduce these lines significantly

Answer: Try waiting waiting for nature is always a good option. especially as you have tried revision surgery. my guess is that this will resolve in a few months but minimally invasive subcision techniques amy also work. for now and the next 9 months do nothing and things will certainly improve IMO Adam Goodwin.

Answer: For cosmetic surgery outcomes To make an accurate assessment on the outcome of the plastic surgery procedure we generally need to see the quality before and after pictures. If you don’t have your before and after pictures and ask your surgeon to forward the pictures they took. At six months your results are final and it is unlikely you’re going to improve or change significantly with time. Provider selection is incredibly important. Generally speaking the two most important variables in quality cosmetic surgery outcomes are the patient’s candidacy for the procedure and the skill of the provider. Being board-certified and plastic surgery with potentially years of experience, and an overall good reputation does not mean somebody has mastered any one single procedure. I encourage all patients to have multiple in person, consultations before choosing a provider for permanent irreversible cosmetic surgical procedures. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients with similar facial or body characteristics to your own. An experienced plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 15 previous patients. At this point, it’s going to be difficult to improve your outcome. While your provider probably meant well in offering you the revision, there’s a possibility that the revision may have made things worse rather than better. Generally speaking revision of work is more difficult than primary surgery. Any future attempt at improving the outcome must be done by someone who has truly mastered the skill of facial aesthetic surgery. Finding the right provider for a vision, work is more or less the same as finding the right provider for primary procedures. Some providers may not be willing to take on certain revision cases because of the complexity involved. I generally encourage people who are in your situation to move slowly taking plenty of time to make final decisions, and during that time have as many consultations as possible. Best way to find the right provider is to have as many consultations as possible. Take ownership of the consultation to vet providers. Look for senior plastic surgeons, who specialize in facelift surgery. Avoid providers who think improving your outcome is going to be easy for that some device for technology can easily improve your situation. Improving your outcome he’s going to be difficult and your situation is complex. For any second opinion consultation come prepared bringing with you complete sets and before and after pictures for each of your two procedures and copies of your operative reports. These are all available from your current providers office if you request them. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD.
