Morning after pill 5 weeks before tummy tuck and ba?

Question

My husband and I had an accident with a condom and I ended up with some sperm near my vagina. I am not ovulating but I'm still very nervous about getting pregnant. Can I take the plan b morning after pill one month before my surgery? I've read it can increase the risk of blood clots if taken too soon before. Is one month enough time for it to be out of my system before my tummy tuck and breast augmentation? Btw, my husband is getting a vasectomy next month. Thank you!

There should likely be no reason to worry about having taken the Plan B pill a month before your procedure. If you have further concerns or questions about this or its reaction with your procedure and ability to heal properly then all you need to do is speak to your surgeon directly before surgery in order to make sure that everything is scheduled properly. This question is best answered by your surgeon as opinions may vary.  In general yes you can safely take the morning after pill one month before your planned surgery.  The day of surgery it is standard procedure for all women of child bearing age who have not had a hysterectomy be given a pregnancy test.

Thank you for your excellent question.  Taking plan B a month before your MM will not impact your results or add to the risks of surgery.  It will be important to be tested the morning of surgery to ensure that you are not pregnant.  Hope that this helps.

Typically I advise patients to stay off hormonal pills for a month before surgery. So I think you should be OK; however your surgeon may decide to give you blood thinners based on many other factors. Please discuss the issue with him.
