When safe to shower after TT and gynecomastia? (Photo)

Hello, and thank you for the picture regarding when it's safe to shower after your tummy tuck. Thank you for your history and your pictures. Most plastic surgeons wait for their patients to shower after all the drains have been removed. There is a possibility that the drain site could become infected from shower use. Shower water can pick up bacteria on the skin and transport the bacteria to the drain site, thus, unfortunately, allowing the drain site to become infected just for the luxury of being allowed to take a shower. Therefore, most plastic surgeons would recommend that the drain be removed before you take a shower. However, some other plastic surgeons allow their patients to shower with drains in place. In general, there is no harm in not taking a shower.
Regarding your results, most plastic surgeons agree that you have excellent results, especially at six days postoperative. It'll be important for you to follow up with your plastic surgeon regarding the timing of drain removal, lymphatic massage, and how long you need to wear your medical garment.

I generally love my patients to shower after both gynecomastia and tummy tuck operations on the morning after. You have to check with your own doctor to see what they suggest. It is much too early to assess your results.

Not being aware of the types of garments your doctor has applied post-surgery, you will need to check with the office and ask the question directly. You'll feel great after your first shower!

I recommend my patients shower three days post procedure and ask that they don't sit in a bathtub or in water until at least five days after the last drain is removed and only if there are no open wounds or problems.  At this stage there is still quite a bit of swelling.  Most patients lose seventy percent of their swelling in the first three months and the rest in ensuing months. 

I am glad you are happy with your result.  Your surgeon must answer your question.  However, I know that showers can safely be taken even with drains in.
