Laser hair removal before or after lipo + tummy tuck?

I will often elevate the mons (pubic area) during a tummy tuck to rejuvenate the area. However, I make the incision low enough so that the hair bearing skin is not elevated too high. You can certainly do laser hair procedures before and after a tummy tuck. I would defer to your surgeon for specific timing of the treatment. Good luck!

Its best to consult with your board certified PS before having treatment done.  Most patients should wait 3-6 months before having a laser treatment over an incision.
Whether the pubic area will be raised or not will be as a result of your PS's technique and the amount of skin elasticity present. Pictures or a personal examination will be needed to properly evaluate your concerns. Please visit a board certified PS for a detailed surgical plan to achieve your desired results.

I know exactly what concerns you. The hairline can get pulled up if the incision isn’t made low enough. The lower incision of the tummy tuck can be made low enough so that a significant amount of hair bearing skin is removed during surgery. This also limits how much the scar migrates upwards. So I would do the tummy tuck first. With this technique you probably won’t need laser hair removal at all

I appreciate your concern and your first step should be discussion with your board-certified plastic surgeon. I do think it is reasonable to undergo laser hair removal at least a month prior to your surgery, if you so desire. After surgery, I would wait at least 1 to 2 months, after clearance from your surgeon  to be certain that you are fully healed. Good luck!

Hello and thank you for your question. I don't think there is a right answer for this question. You can go either way. I would say it is probably better to get this done after your tummy tuck incision has completely healed, typically 3 months or so post op. I would suggest that you discuss this with your plastic surgeon. I would seek consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon

You can have laser hair removal either before or after your tummy tuck.  If you elect to have the tummy tuck prior to laser hair removal you will want to wait until about 3 months post op before considering treatment.  Discuss your concerns with your surgeon as he/she is most familiar with your surgical plan.

Laser hair removal can either be done before your tummy tuck and lipo or several weeks after your surgery to allow the incisions to heal and to reduce your swelling. If your tummy tuck is designed well, then it should be pulling up on your pubic hair line. I design an ultra-low incision to keep the pubic hair at a normal to lower height and below the natural panty line.  There is no 1 correct answer. I would suggest waiting 2-3 months after the tummy tuck. I would also suggest you find a
plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally
a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you
trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that
surgeon in person and follow her/his instructions.

A well  designed tummy tuck will lower the upper part of the pubic hair distribution lowering how high the pubic hair section is by removing part of the hair bearing skin on the upper part of the mons pubis. I suggest having the procedure first and talk to your plastic surgeon in person before about where the incision will be placed, how much of the mons pubis will be reduced etc.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
