I would highly recommended Juvederm , many people have reactions to collagen, but wait and ensure the reaction is 100% subsided before you try another filler
Yes, you can have Juvederm for lip augmentation. Keep in mind, it takes 1-2 weeks for final results with fillers, as swelling resolves. See an expert for best outcomes. Best, Dr. Emer
Juvederm or any hyaloranic acid filler should be safe. I advise you to wait for your reaction to collagen injection to go away completely. After that, discuss your options with board certified provider. Good luck!
Collagen is the main structural protein found in our bodies, and can be derived from a human or animal source (typically pig or bovine) for cosmetic use. Collagen fillers are largely a thing of the past, due to the higher probability of allergic reactions, and unpredictable longevity.Having an allergic reaction to collagen fillers should not rule out treatment with Juvederm. Juvederm, as well as the majority of fillers currently on the market, are made of a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule found in the human body. Unlike collagen fillers, allergy tests prior to treatment are unnecessary, due to the very, very low probability of an allergic reaction. If you would like to be extra cautious, you may first have a “test spot” injected in an inconspicuous area, and monitor the area for any reactions in the following days. You will likely find no change, and may move forward with treatment shortly thereafter. Be sure to first consult with a board certified Dermatologist. Best of luck.
Juvederm is comprised of hyaluronic acid and therefore it is very unlikely that you will also be allergic to juvederm even with your history of allergy to collagen injections. If you are still concerned, you can have a small test spot injected into a less conspicuous area such as behind the ear to see how your body reacts. FInally, with all hylauronic acid fillers significant swelling, bruising, and tenderness can occasionally occur after injection and it is more of a reaction to the needle penetration rather than the filler itself. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD Plastic Surgery
Lip augmentation is a procedure where filler is injected into the lips to increase volume and enhance the borders of the lips. Just by poking the lips with the needle causes swelling. The reactive swelling goes down in the first 2 days. Then it takes 2 weeks for the filler to absorb water and reach your final result. Bruising may delay the result further. Before that point, it's too early to evaluate your outcome and you end up chasing your tail by touching up prematurely. If you've had a reaction to collagen, you have the same low risk (like any other person) of having a reaction with hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane or Juvederm.Patience is virtue. Don't rush into adding more filler or dissolving with hyaluronidase. Make sure you follow-up with your doctor so they can track your progress to a safe and happy result. Safety comes first.
Hello robinrae0114,Juvederm is largely made up of hyaluronic acid, an identical human protein. The body likely won't reject Juvederm. Juvederm is recommended. It is unclear what the composition of the previous collagen injection was. Best wishes,Dr. Mowlavi
Thanks for your question Robin. I have had patients who had reacted to collagen years earlier do well with hyaluronic fillers. I have never seen an allergic reaction to either Juvederm or Restylane in my years of practice. It is an extremely rare occurrence. Without photos, it is really hard to gauge how severe your lines really are. But in general, I would recommend a combination approach including some or all of the following: Medical Skin Care - to prep the skin and maintain the results once rejuvenatedProfractional Laser Resurfacing - to help ...
Hi there and thanks for the great question. It's hard to distinguish the severity without a photo, it can be some residual swelling, which can last from injectable fillers for up to 2 weeks. Light massage in the area with your thumb and index finger can help disburse the material and make the b...
Thank you for your question. It is advisable to avoid any NSAID’s before and after treatment as they tend to thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising and swelling. It is common to have some swelling after fillers for lip augmentation which can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. You can ap...
