Should I get thong lift and is the scar noticeable? (Photos)

Thank you for your question regarding a buttock lift through a thong lift incision. Based on your pictures and your desires, I would suggest a thong lift buttock incision. The best buttock lift in your case would be an incision on the top of the buttock. This would extend from the buttock crease over towards the hips. This is the best lift for your buttock because it would lift the buttock skin up and it would give you a nice, tight, wrinkle-free buttock. However, the appearance of the scar may be a major drawback. If you cannot tolerate this superior scar at the top of your buttock, then I would suggest the thong lift incision. During a thong lift buttock lift, an incision is made in the buttock crease and buttock skin is pulled from lateral to medial. Not as much buttock skin can be removed as in the upper buttock incision mentioned above, however, the thong lift is a good second option. The thong lift scar is well hidden in the buttock crack if placed appropriately. However, this is plastic surgeon dependent.  You will need to find an experienced, plastic surgeon who has performed many thong lift buttock lift. Good luck. I have encountered this concern many times.  Based upon your photos, do you have significant lax skin of the lower buttock and posterior thighs with a ill-defined junction. The remedy for this is usually a lower buttock tuck not a thong lift. A lower buttock tuck (aka “banana roll tuck”) is kind of like a tummy tuck for the buttock in that it removes loose sagging skin from not only the lower buttock but also the back of the thigh to tighten both areas and create a more defined buttock crease. In doing so it also aesthetically shortens and/or rounds out the buttock cheek. It is ideal for those patients that have had significant weight loss or fluctuations, changes from fillers injected, multiple pregnancies, or who’s derrieres have succumb to the dreaded effects of gravity and aging. It is also effective for those whom feel their buttock cheek is naturally too long or square and just want it proportionately shortened and rounded, respectively.

I would recommend not pursuing surgery as the profile from the photos submitted looks reasonable. There is some skin laxity and a roll on the inferior buttock crease. These areas  are extremely difficult to correct-with issues like scarring and implant complications. I would leave matters alone if possible.

It’s unfortunate you had that removed from your buttocks.The primary problem is not excess skin but lots of volume.I thong left may help the area look better but it is not treating the primary problem which is your previous Liposuction.Expect having some improvements and you should expect a scar that will be visible at least from certain angles. When it comes to skin excisions the more skin that’s removed the longer the scar needs to be. Trying to make a short scar can sometimes really compromise what someone is setting out to accomplish. The perception of scars are very subjective and people heal very differently based on their genetic background. If you’ve had scars from previous surgeries which I know you do then you’ll have an idea of what your scores will look like.Different parts of the body to heal differently.Another option is restoring the volume with multiple rounds of fat transfer. The success of this is directly related to how much fat was left behind from the liposuction procedure.it will not be successful if most of the fat was removed.Best, Mats Hagstrom,MD
