Miradry Second Treatment Wait Time Question.

Thank you for your question and for sharing your story.  Waiting three months assures that your surrounding tissues have adequately healed from the heat generated by the miraDry procedure.  I will sometimes advance the timeline if I assess the tissue and determine it has fully healed.  Waiting longer than three months does not affect the efficacy of the 2nd treatment and you can certainly repeat the procedure.  I would recommend that you visit an experienced miraDry practice.  We were the first plastic surgery practice in Houston to offer miraDry and it complements a surgical procedure that I do to permanently reduce sweat/odor.  miraDry is a great procedure but outcome vary by the individual as well as the way it is performed. It has dramatically reduced the need for surgery.

Thank you for your question. The reason we have patients wait at least 12 weeks from treatment is to allow the area to fully heal and all swelling to subside. We do a starch iodine test and take photos prior to the 1st treatment to establish a baseline, and then we repeat this procedure in 12 weeks to see the difference. It is not common to need a 2nd treatment in our practice, but it is certainly not unheard of. I would discuss with your practitioner to make sure you were treated at the highest level (5) and that an appropriately sized template was used to treat the entire area. If patients do require a 2nd treatment, we offer this at 50% off. Best of luck!

Thanks for this interesting question. The effects of MiraDry are permanent eradication of the sweat cells. So, you can have another treatment any time after, but no less than 3 months. The three months are necessary to allow your body to heal and to be capable of tolerating another treatment. I would suggest you have an iodine-starch test before this new treatment to analyze just where remaining sweat glands are in you underarm areas. You can still treat the entire underarm, but you can also be sure to "get" the remaining sweat glands. Best wishes,Dr. ALDO

The reason for waiting 3 months after the first treatment is to allow the underarm area time to fully recover. At the 3 month mark the sweat and odor reduction from the miradry treatment should be stable and permanent. An iodine-starch test could then evaluate your reduction of sweat and give useful information as to whether a second treatment would be beneficial. Waiting 2 years vs 3 months will have no influence on efficacy or hinder your response rate.

Waiting three months after your first miraDry treatment allows your underarm area to recover completely and return to its "new" normal - this allows both you and your treating physician/surgeon to determine the degree of improvement you experienced with one treatment and what is reasonable to expect with a second.  Waiting longer than three months does not change the efficacy of a second miraDry procedure; if you and your doctor decide that you would benefit from a second treatment, definitely schedule it at a time that works for you.  Make sure that your second treatment is done with the Level 5 setting (some patients who only get Level 3 or 4 on their first treatment might not have maximized the elimination of sweat glands).Hope this helps,Dr. Lim

Hi SweatyRVA! I'm curious what you've noticed since the first treatment... have you noticed any change in the amount of sweating/odor you have from under your arms? Is one side sweating more than the other?

After 2 years, your body has fully recovered from your first procedure. If you are still experiencing sweat and/or odor, and you noticed some results after the first treatment, you would potentially benefit from undergoing another treatment. There are different settings on the machine used to treat, and the setting used can affect the results.

Hi and thank you for your question!We require every patient wait at least 3 months in between treatments to allow for the full healing time. We have had many patients wait longer, even a year or two in between and still benefited from the full effects of miraDry. I had the procedure and am so happy I did! One reason to wait 3 months is that the first 3 months you may see fluctuation in results. So by the 3rd month you kind of know your final results.  You can do it anytime after that.  This is a medical procedure and they do not wok 100% in 100% of people, so it is important to also keep that in consideration.

I think it is important to know what you mean by "I didn't have the best results".  Can you guesstimate what percent reduction you have had?  Some patients may achieve a 50 % reduction with one procedure and this may increase quite a bit with a second BUT I do believe this should be done using the highest power setting (5) .  It would be good to know what power setting was used at the first procedure.  The anesthesia technique used is important to have enough anesthesia to have the procedure without any pain and this is easily accomplished using the tumescent technique.
