I will be getting a reduction in a few weeks. I will have internal stitches, dermabond, and the stitches on the outside. My surgeon said I can not shower for 5weeks. Only sponge bathe. WHY IS THIS?? Why wait to long to clean myself properly
Answer: Shower You will not be able to get your glue and surgical tapes wet for they will come off in the shower. Please follow your surgeon's advice. You can still bathe around the areas.

Answer: Shower Thanks for your question! This seems a bit unusual to me; however, I'm not the one to answer this question for you. I would suggest reaching out to your doctor's office to find out why they have that recommendation in place. Good luck!

Answer: Showering Not showering for five weeks seems excessive. Often it is recommended to avoid prolonged submersion like in a pool, hot tub, etc but showering within a few days of surgery is typically acceptable. I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

Answer: Why will I not be able to shower after my breast reduction? Hello @sachejay, thank you for your question. Your wound needs to stay dry because moisture can increase the number of bacteria in the wound, which can lead to infection. You want to minimize the risk of infection to help your wound heal properly that's why you need to follow your doctors recommendations to a T. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
