Can Asymmetry after breast reduction be corrected? (photo)

Question

I’m really unhappy with my breast reduction results.. You can see my nipples point in different directions and are not symmetrical in how they are centered in the areola. The areolas also seem to sit toward the side of my breasts, not in the center. And they are at slightly different heights on my chest. The left breast is also about a cup size smaller than the right. Are these issues that can be fixed? I’m worried about having more surgery and not seeing better results

Hi. I am sorry you are unhappy with your breast reduction experience. Breast asymmetry after breast reduction can be corrected. Breast reduction revision might include further reduction of the larger side, or fat grafting to the smaller side to improve any size discrepancies. Nipple position on the areola and nipple position can also be improved.

Hello @sneakers85, thank you for your question. Having breast reconstruction can improve aspects such as uniformity in the height and centeredness of the nipples. After surgery, it can take up to a year for you to fully recover from the breast reduction and to have a revision. Thank you for your query. It appears that your breast reduction  is relatively recent. There will be settling down of tissues for upto one year. Some fat injections or micro liposuctions can equalise the volumes and scar revisions, if needed at the end of one year, can also improve the rest of your contours. I do quite a bit of revision breast surgery and these problems can be fixed with some limitations. The right breast can be made smaller to match the left or fat grafting can be done to the left to make it match the right in terms of size. The areolas will have to be reduced in size in order to re-position the nipple more in the center of the areola. Finally the areolas can be brought closer to the middle of the breasts rather than the side. Closer symmetry of the breasts can be achieved with a revision breast reduction.

The lower areola can be lifted and more tissue can be removed from the larger breast or fat added to the smaller breast. You would need to be at least 6 months from surgery before considering any revision since swelling is still present.
