I have oily skin after rhinoplasty. What can I do to fix this?

It is totally normal to have skin changes after your surgery.  The tape, cast and adhesives used will often clog pores and cause some minor skin reactions.Wash your face well with a gentle cleanser designed for oily skin and use toner or astringent to help with the pores.  This should resolve quickly.

Hello!! Yes it is completely normal to have oily skin after a Rhinoplasty. The tape and cast prevent the skin from breathing and also for the fact that you cannot wash this area of the face until the tape is finally removed. Also the tape leaves a sticky residue that gets into the pores and also causes congestion and black heads. I recommend a deep cleansing facial with a qualified aesthetician that can treat your skin. Your nose is still very sensitive and fragile so extra care is needed when cleaning the nose area. I recommend a plastic surgery skincare specialist.

Oily skin and blocked pores are almost universal after having the nose taped for a week. I always recommend to my patients to start using any toner or astringent twice per day on a cotton ball to wipe the area. This usually helps resolve the excess oil sooner than if you did nothing. Best of luck

Depending on how far postop you are, it is not unusual to have oily skin after your nasal cast and tape are removed. The adhesive that is used to hold the cast and tape in place can cause clogged pores on the nose. Once the cast is removed, it is a normal response for the pores to produce sebum, or the oily substance. This will improve and become less over time. 

I would recommend using Organoderm skin care products, especially the mild cleanser and adding the exfoliator to get it under control. Then, I would not neglect using the day cream with SPF 30+ daily to minimize the sun exposure and so reduce quicker the swelling of the nose.
