Is voluma longer lasting than than juvederm for lip fillers?

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your limited success with the traditional HA fillers in your lips.  It would be an off-label use of Voluma (which is currently only FDA approved for the cheek and mid face of patients) but some injectors will use Voluma to obtain a longer-lasting result.  Care must be taken in order to leave a smooth result but be sure that your injector informs you of the risks with treatment.  

Hello, Voluma should not be used in lips.  It is meant for deeper tissue and I think it will be "lumpy."  Volbella is the new sister to Voluma for the lips.  It is "supposed" to last 12 months.  I say supposed to because so many factors affect the breakdown of these products in our body.  If you have tried restylane and juverderm then it may be time to consider Volbella.  The only down side is that it is a half a syringe.  And depending on your lips you may need two.    But that's the only product I would experiment with next.  Good luck.

Thank you for your question.  Voluma is a very good filler for your cheeks and midface.  It is a bit of a larger molecule, so it is usually placed deeper in the skin, (subdermal).  The sales people will tell you it lasts about 2 years.  In our experience it last about a year and a half.  As far as Juvederm Ultra Plus, (which we like for the nasolabial folds), and Juvederm Ultra, (which we like for the lips), the sales people will tell you it lasts about a year, in reality about 9 months. Every person is different so it can last a longer or shorter time period, depending on the patient.  It has been our experience that some folks that are hypermetabolic, (in the gym twice a day, etc.), tend to break down Botox and Fillers faster.  Each individual is different though. Voluma is not indicated for use in the lips.  I would suggest trying Volbella, also made by Allergan. Like Voluma, Volbella is made with Vycross technology which essentially means the product will last longer once injected.  Volbella is a thinner consistency, allowing for better placement in the lips. 

Although other doctors might write about using Voluma in the lips, I would be reluctant to use this product for this off-label use as it might produce too much volume as it's meant to be used as a deep filler above the bone under muscle or in deep fat planes. Juvederm works well for most of my NYC patients lasting 6-12 months but the new product, made by the same company, Volbella, may last longer than Juvederm.

Thank you for your question. Voluma is the first facial filler to be approved by the FDA for the non-surgical treatment of the cheeks. The injectable filler can deliver results for up to two years that correct volume loss in the cheeks. I suggest that you move forward and consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon to learn more about your options for lips and about Voluma. You can determine your candidacy for certain procedures during the consultation as well.

Juvderm Voluma is a much thicker product than the Juvederm that is used to augment the lips. Voluma is primarily a facial sculptor that does a beautiful job of creating lift and volume in the cheekbones and mid-face. I also use it to help create stronger jawbones or chins. Voluma would never be my first choice as a lip augmenter. It is thick and when injected in the lip can be seen and is not very natural appearing with animation when injected in this area.Consulting with someone who is an expert lip injector is imperative, as is being patient. Going for too much volume too soon would not result in a flattering or satisfying outcome.

Voluma is a firmer filler that is FDA approved for the cheek area.  I would not recommend it routinely for lips since it can be very firm.  Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Thank you for your question danielle611. Voluma is a filler used to enhance the appearance of the face. Voluma is a thicker filler and is designed to enhance the cheeks. It does use Vycross technology that allows it to last longer. Volbella is now available with the same Vycross technology. But Volbella is thinner and designed for the lips.
