I'm a 29 year old female. My nose is too meaty and the alar base too wide. I want it to look smaller/narrower. What can I do, please?
Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photograph, you may benefit from a tip refining rhinoplasty. Your surgeon can accomplish this by trimming, suturing, and reshaping the cartilage in your lower nose. Cartilage grafts may also be used to help improve tip refinement. You may also benefit from an alar base reduction. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Answer: Isolated alar base An isolated alar base reduction is good when the base is wide or there is excess flare and the tip is small. An isolated alar base reduction will change the proportion of your nose. The base will be smaller and more narrow, but the tip will not change. This may make the nose look abnormal if the tip is large. In your case, consider having tipwork and alar base reduction together.

Answer: No You need more than an alar base reduction. You have blocked a lot of your face, so an in person exam is needed, but it looks like at least the tip should be reduced too.

Answer: Alar base reduction An alar base reduction can reduce the flare and width of the nasal base. It does not thin the nasal tip.

Answer: Alar base reduction for wide nose. Alar base reduction is just part of a Nose job, but for a normal appearence most nosejobs need a bone narrowing fracture or bone reduction as well. And many times a tip reduction. I always insist on pre op planing either with a 3D imaging software or at least a 2D . with that tool the patient can see how the nose changes as each part is treated.
