When can I do heat treatments (Exilis, HIFU & RF) after Jawtox?

Question

I'm thinking of doing jawtox but I also want to continue my regular treatments of Exilis, HIFU and RF. Some says you cant do them if you have jawtox. Some says you can do it without downtime. Some says you can do it 2 weeks after Jawtox. Insights?

After reviewing with our cosmetic nurse, the following was discussed:

It’s generally recommended to wait at least one to two weeks after Exilis treatments before receiving Botox injections. Exilis uses radiofrequency and ultrasound energy to heat the skin and stimulate collagen production, which can cause temporary swelling or inflammation. If Botox is injected too soon after Exilis, there’s a risk that the heat and tissue changes could affect the way Botox settles, potentially leading to less precise results or unintended diffusion into nearby muscles. Most providers suggest waiting two weeks to ensure the skin has fully calmed and to allow for more accurate placement of the Botox. However, in some cases, a minimum of one week may be acceptable, depending on your provider’s assessment and the area treated. Always consult with your practitioner to determine the safest and most effective timing based on your individual treatment plan.

After getting Jawtox (Botox in the masseter area), it's generally recommended to wait at least 2 weeks before undergoing heat-based treatments like Exilis, HIFU, or RF. This allows the Botox to fully settle and reduces the risk of it spreading or becoming less effective.
High heat or energy treatments too soon can potentially interfere with the Botox’s placement or effectiveness. After the two-week window, these treatments are usually considered safe if performed carefully by an experienced provider. Always check with your injector to coordinate timing based on your treatment plan.

It is OK to continue these treatments while receiving Botox into your jawline or masters. Typically, we recommend for our patients to wait two weeks in between receiving neurotoxin injections, and ablative treatments or anything that’s going to manipulate the skin and tissues of the face where tox was injected.

Energy based treatments such as Ulthera, OligioX, Potenza, et cetera may be performed in the same day as your "Jawtox" as long as it is performed prior to the injection. If you've had Botox or Dysport for masseter reduction already, then it will not effect the results of the injection to have any of these energy based treatments as soon as 1 week afterwards. The neurotoxin is injected deep into the body of the masseter muscle, at a depth the RF or ultrasound will not penetrate, and it will have already been taken up by the neuromuscular junction long before a week.

After having masseter muscle Botox injections (jawtox) I would recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours for any heat device treatment.  Good luck and be well.

There is no problem with doing any of those things at the same time as the masseter botulinum placements.  The "Jawtox" is placed deep into the muscle and none of those treatments are going to cause any meaningful problem at that depth.  If you are concerned, you can first do the energy treatment and then do the masseter botulinum right at the end of those procedures before you leave the office. There is no reason to wait.

You can get Botox for TMJ with your skin tightening treatment, would be advisable to wait 2 weeks in between. It also actually helps with any sagging/jowl that may happen as a result of TMJ Botox. Thank you

Hello,
You can have the jawtox any time after your regular heat based treatments, however you must wait 2x weeks after the Botox before doing the heat based treatment, to allow the Botox to have full effect & prevent any complications.

There is no one right answer that will be 100% accurate, because there have not been enough studies to prove that it is 100% safe. Therefore no one will give you a completely straight answer. The reality is that neuromodulators get taken up within the muscles within minutes. Having a heat-based or even laser treatment should not effect it. Most people recommend waiting 2ish weeks but this out of abundance of caution and not necessarily based on evidence. It would be best to speak with your provider as every treatment is different and they may have more knowledge on the specific treatment you are contemplating.
