What should I apply on my lip or do after my filler and then a cold sore? (Photo)

What you are describing may be a couple of different things.  You may have a post herpetic nodule formation in the lip which will take time to resolve but should resolve.  You may also have a nodule that is unrelated to the cold sore and is related to the filler itself in which case it has formed a nodule.  I would suggest following up with your injector as a small injection of Kenalog may be of some benefit in this situation.  A lot will depend on the time frame from the time of injections.

Thank you for your question.It appears to be healing well. There is still some residual inflammation where the cold sore was, which will continue to go down. I would just keep the are nice and moisturized with Aquaphor or Vaseline until it resolves.

When scheduling future filler treatments it is a good idea to begin a prescription beforehand of Valtrex, or similar medication, as a preventative for cold sores. I recommend contacting your injector for an evaluation.

Contact your provider and alert that person.  You need a prescription called in for Valtrex, and you need to initiate taking it within 72 hours of the onset of the fever blister for best results.  Also, going forward, it would be a good idea to take Valtrex prophylactically before future lip injections, starting 2 days before the lip injection appointment.

If you are prone to cold sores it is advisable to take antiviral tablets on days of procedure.
This prevents cold sores  after the procedure.
The persisting might be just the skin healing.
It will be worth getting your doctor check for you for safety reasons
The filler you have used is usually very well tolerated with minimal complications

I would suggest you have a visit with your injector. It is possible that this nodule formed from the cold-sore itself (post-herpetic nodule) or possibly from the filler that was injected. If it is from the cold sore it should resolve on its own but may take a few weeks. If it is a nodule was caused by the filler, your injector may need to massage it or inject a medication to break it down. 
Prior to any future injections into or around the lips you should start an anti-viral pill such as Valtrex, a few days before injection and then a few days following injection to try to prevent an outbreak . If an outbreak occurs despite the prophylaxis, you should then be taking the Valtrex at a different dosing level (please consult your prescribing practitioner).

If you are prone to getting cold sores after fillers then I would tell the provider when you are getting your lip filler injection.  You can be given precautionary medication (Valtrex) to hopefully prevent an outbreak.  If you actually get an outbreak then I would suggest getting a prescription for an anti-viral like Valtrex.  And never get fillers when you actually have an outbreak on your lip. 

Thank you for your question and picture. In-office procedures and lasers can induce outbreaks. I would address this with your provider as preventative measurements can help. Some providers give patients a prescription for anti-virals . See if this option fits you. 

Thank you for your question and photo. It is common that needle-induced trauma to the lips from filler can result in the activation of cold sores. It does appear to be healing nicely without the use of much secondary treatment. An oral antiviral medication, like Zovirax or Valtrex, can expedite recovery. My recommendation would be to pre-treat with either one of those medications before any future procedure to your lips/perioral area so you don't continue to run into this issue. Keep the skin moisturized with a light layer of Vaseline. If the inflammation/residual tenderness doesn't improve after your cold sore has healed, I'd recommend follow up with your injector for closer evaluation. Hope this helps!

It is important to note the timeline.  When did you get the cold sore.  There may still be residual inflammation at the area which may resolve.  This explains the tenderness.  Give it another 1 to 2 week.  A second possibility, although less likely, is that any HA fillers can cause a delayed inflammatory response although what you describe is most likely secondary to the cold sore. In the future, it may be wise to take an anti viral such as Valtrex prior to any lip injections or any laser procedures on the face
