I think it is safe to go up your stairs but should be done so with great caution, very slowly and with an abundance of help. I Recommend that you discuss this with your surgeon and put together a plan so that you're both comfortable. I feel that it is very important to start walking immediately after surgery, but you certainly should be careful around excessive exertion. I wish you the best.Dr. Gabbay
Hello,Taking stairs after your TT surgery can usually be done carefully, slowly, hunched over for at least the first few days, without jeopardising your recovery. Talk to your Plastic Surgeon about your concerns. All the best!
Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. You can start walking after the first day for surgery in slow motion. To reduce the tummy tuck post op swelling, I recommend you perform daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the abdomen 3-5 times at week for two months, and wear a postoperative girdle from thigh to the breasts for two months at least.Respectfully, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
Hello, in general it is possible to climb stairs after a tummy tuck, as long as it is done slowly and carefully, with assistance as needed, and avoiding tension on your incisions. I would recommend checking with your surgeon about their specific activity restrictions.
Climbing stairs should not be too much of a problem. Remember to maintain some flexion at your hips and go slowly. Most importantly, have one or two people to help stabilize you as you take one stair at a time.
It may be somewhat uncomfortable and you may tire out more quickly but it should be fine. As a minimum please use the hand rail or better yet get someone to help you especially the first few days
The answer normally would be yes, it would be OK to climb stairs. If you have some unusual factors that would change that recommendation, your surgeon should tell you so.
Hi, there. Ambulating and walking up the stairs after tummy tuck are safe and will not loosen your muscle repair. Keep your body hunched over and avoid sneezing/coughing/vomiting that can increase the intra-abdominal pressure. Good luck with your surgery and recovery.
Thank you for the question. Typically I will allow patients to begin walking, not power walking, the day after surgery. By 3 weeks the patients are allowed to increase their level of activity to power walking or light jog, but no lifting of weight or abdominal exercises. I release patients to full, unrestricted activity at 8 weeks post op. Therefore, you should be able to climb stairs as long as it is done prudently. Having said that, each surgeon has their own style in the post operative management of the patient. I would therefore recommend to discuss this with your chosen plastic surgeon. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
It is perfectly fine to climb stairs after a tummy tuck with muscle plication. Doing so will not put you at any additional risk. If you are unsteady on your feet, have someone assist you.
I have had many patients lose up to 30 pounds after tummy tuck without affecting the results. More than tI am not so sure. Losing 20 pounds should not affect the result significantly.
