Question

I'm seven months post Abdominoplasty and two weeks post scar revision of my bellybutton. My navel still has a flat and wide appearance with no or very little depth. Is there anything more that can be done? Would an umbilicoplasty improve the appearance? If so what question should I ask my surgeon? Thank you in advance

Hello, if you had revisionary surgery on your belly button only 2 weeks ago, it may be too early to consider another operation to change the appearance.  It usually takes months for scars to mature and soften so this is when you will be able to assess the result of your recent scar revision.

Thank you for your question and photograph, and I can see your area of concern.  If your belly button, and surrounding tissues, have returned to normal (no swelling, soft, and pliable) you would be a candidate for an umbilicoplasty to help reconstruct your belly button.  Voice your concerns to your surgeon and ask his familiarity and experience with belly button reconstructions.  He may be able to provide you with photographs of prior work.  Hope that this helps.

Hi, Agalleryweglein.  Thanks for your question and photo.  Without examining you in-person, it is difficult to say how much improvement you would get from umbilicoplasty. Review some photos of umbilicoplasty; share those with your plastic surgeon and see whether that can be achieved given your anatomy.  You are only two weeks after your belly button revision.  Please give at least 3-6 months for the belly button to heal and consider a revision.  Best regards.

Thank you for the question and the photograph. From the picture it would appear that you may benefit from an umbilicoplasty. However you are only 2 weeks out from your revision and therefore should wait at least 3 months to allow the inflammatory phase of healing to pass. This will allow your tissue to soften and make revision, if necessary, more predictable. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
