Thank you very much for sharing your concerns with us. To give post-operative advice, i individualize each patient according surgery complexity, to garantize a better p.o. recovery and results. In this regard, between two patients who has made a full tummy tuck, maybe, one of them, needed a bigger muscle repair than the other, because her abdominal wall was weaker. Therefore, who underwent a greater muscle repair, requires a longer recovery period, and will take longer to allow exercise, to prevent any damage of the surgery performed. But generally, the average of TT patients can return to an "office job" that does not involve sweat or load weight to 02 weeks p.o.If it is a job that involves activity or heavy lifting, i recommend returning to work a month after p.o. to prevent surgery damage. Finally, i invite you to send your photos, to give more and better information of interest.Kind regardsDr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
Thank you for your question. Healing after a tummy tuck is usually pretty straight forward. There is a process of swelling and bruising that peaks at 3 days after surgery and then undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery. At this point you can return to work if it doesnt involve heavy physical activity. The lateer phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens. It is after this time that we are getting close to the final result, though this varies patient to patient. That said, you definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety. Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in these procedures.
Hello,Assuming an uneventful recovery, many tummy tuck patients can return to a desk job or school between 1-2 weeks post op. I would recommend more time for active/physically demanding jobs. I suggest that you discuss your expectations and your individual surgical/recovery plan with your Plastic Surgeon so that you know what to expect. All the best
It's always important to check with your doctor to make sure he or she doesn't have a particular rule about that. That said, you may be able to sit in a class for a short period (2-3 hours) as early as a week. If you are still taking any narcotics for pain, it may not be worth going since you won't be thinking clearly anyway. However, driving yourself there may not be possible for at least 10 days, and some patients take up to 2 or 3 weeks before they would feel comfortable.
Thank you for your question. Most patients are able to return to school ten days following their tummy tuck. However, you will not be able to perform any heavy lifting or strenuous physical activity. Please discuss your concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon prior to your procedure. Hope this helps and good luck.
Hello Thank you for your question. If you will be just sitting at school at least a week. 2 weeks would be best. Best regards
Thank you for your question. Wound healing varies from patient to patient so I like to tailor my post operative instructions individually. That being said, as a general guideline for a patient recovering from a abdominoplasty, you should expect to take about 2 weeks off before returning to school. You may be able to comfortable study from home and complete assignments but it would be wise not to overbook yourself and leave at least 2 weeks free for a smooth recovery.
Recoverytime following a tummy tuck depends primarily on how extensive the procedureis, whether the abdominal muscle was repaired, and your individual ability toheal. It also depends on your type of work or activity at school. Following a tummy tuck, mostpatients are able to work at home during the first week and resume returning towork at a sedentary job in 1-2 weeks. However, in a patient with a strenuousjob requiring heavy lifting, I would recommend waiting 4-6 weeks.Youshould discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon, who should be certifiedby the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the AmericanSociety for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), that you trust and arecomfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon inperson. It is important to follow all of his or her instructions.RobertSinger, MD FACSLaJolla, California
ONLY follow your chosen surgeon's advise when to return to school following a TT! Could be 1 to 3 weeks in my private practice.
Taking off for about 2 weeks post tummy tuck is a good idea. This will give you plenty of time to work through most of the soreness and also time to wean yourself off any pain meds that you may be taking. You will still probably have some soreness as well as some lack of full energy after two weeks, but you should be fine to return to school at that time. Talk to your surgeon about any lifting and weight restrictions that you will have.
