Accordion wrinkles. Do I need to have the Voluma removed? (Photo)

Question

I had voluma in my cheeks 3 weeks ago. A half syringe each side. Unfortunately now when I smile, deep accordion lines appear. Especially around my lower eye. It’s almost like the skin gets bunched up. Do I need to have the voluma removed?

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  As you had little Voluma placed you have likely reached your long-term result at 3 weeks.  I would counsel you to see your “before” pictures to ensure these were not present beforehand but otherwise have the Voluma dissolved to restore your previous appearance.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing. I think you need to be assessed by your injector to identify the cause of the wrinkles. If it's swelling then treatment to get the swelling to go away will cause an improvement. However, if swelling is not the issue then you should consider dissolving the product.Good luck, Dr. ALDO

Consider softening the lines with Botox or Dysport, my opinion is that half a syringe of Voluma is not enough to be the cause of the wrinkling.  The total volume added is one milliliter, that is 1/5 of teaspoon, hardly enough to cause waves.  I would consider reevaluation and adding more volume to lateral upper cheeks to give you more of a lift.  Hope this helps, Dr Violetta Mailyan.

A very interesting dilemma.  Without having access to your pre-injection photos, it is very difficult to determine the extent of the impact the Voluma injection had upon you.  If you are noticing a dramatic change in your appearance, and no other treatment modalities were used (additional fillers, neuromodulators), then it seems as though the Voluma placement may be the culprit.  Only you and your injector can be sure, and may consider dissolving the product.  Hope this was helpful.
