As long as your herpes is inactive (i.e., you are not currently having a flare), liposuction is not contraindicated. If you are not already taking an antiviral such as Valtrex™ or Famvir™, you may want to do so before your liposuction to avoid a flare before the procedure and/or during your recovery period. You may also want to consider noninvasive fat-elimination techniques, such as Vanquish, CoolSculpting and ThermiTight. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist who can offer you a number of options to get the best body-contouring outcome … and do mention your condition during your meeting.
If the herpes breakout involves areas near the region where you plan to have liposuction done, then it might affect whether or not it's safe. Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Be certain your surgeon is properly certified. I've attached a link where you can start your search.
It will not affect you to do liposuction as long as you do not have an active episode. If you do is best to post pone the procedure.
You can have liposuction, if you have herpes. Valtrex may be recommended pre and post-operatively. For best results with liposuction, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a hi definition physique expert. Best, Dr. Emer
Herpes is not a contraindication to liposuction. However, an active infection or flare is a reason to delay surgery and seek treatment. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
Having herpes will not stop you from having liposuction as long as you are not in the course of an active infection or flare up. Discuss this with your PCP in advance.
Herpes history should not be a contra-indication to Liposuction. Many people are on long term medicine treatment, or if you experience flares, you can be placed on Valtrex preop, continuing postoperatively.
As long as you're not having an outbreak you should be fine getting liposuction. I would also recommend prophylactic acyclovir around the time of your procedure. Thanks for your question!Dr. Schreiber, Baltimore plastic surgeon
Thank you for sharing your excellent question. I would avoid any procedure if you are having an active flare taking place but if you are in a quiescent stage you should be fine to have liposuction performed. Hope this helps.
Having the herpes virus present in your body by itself will not prevent you from having a liposuction procedure.

The description of liposuction areas will vary a bit among different surgeons. I consider the abdomen as the entire front of the belly from the rib cage down to the pubis. What most surgeons call the 'waist' I call 'flanks'. Most of the time, the abdomen and flanks are done together, whic...
