Excessive bruising and swelling after 1st series of Kybella Injections, why would this be happening?

I am sorry that you are still bruised and swollen.  Kybella works by destroying fat cells, and this does result in inflammation (swelling) and subsequent skin tightening.  Depending on how big the bruise is, it could be adding to your swelling.  At the time of your post, you were about 1 week out from your kybella session.  Bruising can last for 2 weeks and swelling lasts an average of 11 days.  So, please be reassured that what you are experiencing is likely normal.  However, you should always feel free to contact your provider and ask if what you are experiencing is normal.

Kybella is used in the office with local anesthetic. The downtime can range from a few days to weeks. Bruising and swelling is common but I have not seen excessive bruising. My patients ice the area for 20 minutes afterward and this seems to help a great deal.

The swelling is really bad with some patients with Kybella. I have noticed that when it's really bad the results are actually better because more fat cells die off faster. So, hang in there!The bruising is a different matter and it could be due to you taking aspirin, ibuprofen or some other blood thinner. Kybella can be associated with bruising and swelling that may persist for several weeks after treatment.  Because we do not have photographs to examine I would revisit your injector for an in-person evaluation of your tissues and discussion of methods of improvement.  Best wishes.

For many folks, they would be better off paying a little more and having a lower face and neck liposuction. The liposuction is a highly reliable method with almost immediate results and a very short healing phase.  Yes, Kybella is associated with swelling and bruising and only 60% see a result after 6 treatments.  That means that 40% will be disappointed.  To my thinking, that is a lot of disappointment.  

Bruising (less common) and swelling (more common) are known entities that happen for many patients following Kybella injections. The swelling may take several weeks to resolve. Try to stay patient, but realize that this may be part of your experience as you undergo your series of injections. Good luck!

Almost everyone develops swelling after a Kybella treatment and this can last a week or so for some patients.  Bruising is possible but does not always occur.  When bruising does happen, it normally goes through a series of stages where the colors may change and the bruising may move as well.  The price you were given for up to 6 sessions sounds very reasonable to me.  

Often there is bruising and swelling post kybella. Exilis or venus legacy treatments post therapy help give improvement. Kybella does require a series of treatments to get improvement. Some bruising and swelling are common after any injectable, but every patient heals differently. In general, I have my patient's apply ice to the treatment area after Kybella to help minimize bruising. In terms of swelling, it is typically gone in 2 weeks, but some patients take significantly longer. Hang in there and if things don't improve, schedule an appointment with your surgeon to discuss.
