As a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, I focus on procedures involving the face, eyelids and neck. Together with my wife, Geeta Been (oculoplastic surgeon), we offer in-house surgical suites at our practice in Geneva, IL, to create a private and enjoyable experience.
Must Mention RealSelf
Dr. Been and his staff are kind, caring, and genuine. I was very nervous about having basal cell carcinoma removed from my face by my Dermatologist and how I would look afterwards. I was referred to Dr. Been. From the minute I walked into Dr. Been's office, I felt at ease. They were very friendly and patient and answered my questions and we even had a few laughs along the way. I am now 1 week post-procedure and it's apparent that I am going to heal just fine and Dr. Been's technique and skills are outstanding. Thank you. Highly recommend!
Dr.Been was great! This was my first consultation ever and he spent a lot of time going over my options and explaining what would happen. He was very friendly and the office staff was wonderful. I was given pricing options for different procedures and the whole appointment overall was just wonderful.

He consistently demonstrates a genuine commitment to listening to patients’ needs, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed thoroughly. Dr. Been goes above and beyond by offering insightful suggestions and ideas on treatment options. Moreover, his staff mirrors his dedication to excellence, exhibiting professionalism and a high level of expertise in their roles. They provide a seamless and supportive experience, enhancing the overall quality of care. Dr. Been and his team create a welcoming environment where patients feel valued and confident in the care they receive.
First off, let me say that my decision was not taken lightly — I consulted with doctors on each coast, in Chicago proper, etc. Now, there was nothing wrong wire the other doctors per se, I honestly think it just came down to personal preference and if your vision aligns with that of the doctor you chose. In this case, I chose Dr. Been because he honestly underpromised and overdelivered (I’m still in the very early stages of my recovery having had the surgery less than two weeks ago). Additionally, he took the time and patience to explain to me what was and wasn’t possible, e.g., if you’re looking for a full reconstruction, he doesn’t do that, and if we were on the same page, then we could proceed. What I loved most is that he was very meticulous with the various nuances I wanted to achieve and we went over them in detail prior to surgery. Although I know I can be difficult in the sense that I [sometimes] let the intrusive thoughts win, he reassured me along the way and continues to as I bombard him with correspondence, lol. His patience, demeanor, and overall surgical prowess is one of the best I’ve seen! And lack of pretentiousness which you don’t often see in a plastic surgeon — and I’m allowed to say this as a majority of my family are doctors, lol. Also, his staff is incredible, answering emails from me during odd hours, and OMG! One of the best anesthesia experiences I’ve ever hard and honestly one of the scariest parts of the entire thing for me. The fact that his CRNA used IV sedation is *chef’s kiss*! Although I am not close to his practice, I can honestly say that I will be a “customer” and hopefully a friend for life. Coming back for any and all touch ups along the way as well as fillers, Botox, etc. I’ve already referred my mom and I think she’ll be getting her facelift with Dr. Been as well! One last thing, I think it’s so wholesome that he and his wife practice together and if that doesn’t give you a warm, family dynamic, I don’t know what will. I will try to provide updates as I continue to heal, but very much looking forward to seeing the progress! And remember, ladies. If you’re looking for one surgery to correct all of your problems, that is not going to happen here or anywhere. He did a PHENOMENAL job and I’m sure the results will speak for themselves, but as in life, nothing is guaranteed and if god forbid I require any minor work or revisions in the future (because of the way I heal, not Dr. Been’s work), I would gladly and candidly speak to him about it and go back time & time again. I mention this only because I, myself, have been bombarded with images of perfection and wanting to achieve a certain outcome in addition to having had a traumatic experience with a previous doctor in the past where I attempted to have multiple honest conversations to correct the mistakes to no avail. If you’re on the fence, consider this a green flag! Thank you to everyone at Been Facial Plastics for treating me with such warmth, kindness, understanding, and patience. It means the world, coming from someone who was scarred in/from the past.
Mark is kind and considerate. He explained the procedures I wanted and was honest in the details. I felt like I mattered while speaking with him. Mark's enthusiasm is infectious. His team is a well-oiled machine of thoughtfulness and positive energy.
From walking in I was impressed with the cleanliness and customer service. Once in the room Mark and his nurse were very kind and knowledgeable. Everything was explained thoroughly. I love the results so far! I would highly recommend Mark Been.
I came to Dr Been as he was recommended to me by the plastic surgeon who did my breast augmentation. I traveled 2 1/2 hours to see him and have confidence he is the best choice for my facial enhancements
Dr. Mark Been and his staff at Been Facial Plastics are nothing but the absolute best medical team I have ever experienced in my entire life. There was absolutely zero error from start to finish (from how you are treated, to his office, to his staff, to him and his work), and that is precisely what Dr. Mark Been ensures – that you have a nothing-but-stellar experience from the time you call his office to make a consult appointment all the way until you have properly healed and beyond! I promise you - you will be treated with respect; you will be heard; and you will be thoroughly happy the entire time. I went to Been Facial Plastics for a rhinoplasty revision. I had undergone a septorhinoplasty three years prior, but it did not do the trick. My nose was large, bent to one side, and my septum was literally falling out of my nostril. It has not been about 4 1/2 months. I can breathe again. My allergies are MUCH better. And my nose is absolutely beautiful. NO complaints what so ever!
Very professional doctor and staff. All were very pleasant from Jenny that was patient with me when I realized I had left my purse at home and waited for me to have information emailed to Jackie and Dr. Been working efficiently trying to keep me as comfortable as possible. Very compassionate.
Had a mole removed from my face in office. No pain at all throughout the procedure and I left looking good. Only had a few stitches and they're hidden well. Dr. Been is an excellent doctor and I highly recommend him.
Having a cavity filled a few days before your nasal surgery should be fine. Make sure to touch base with your surgeon just to be safe. Good luck!
Thanks for your inquiry. Given your timeline, I would continue to wait and see if there is any residual swelling that is contributing to fullness on the bridge of your nose. It is possible that over the coming months you may see improvement with this issue.
Based on your photos, I do not think Botox will be an effective solution for your concerns. You appear to be a good candidate for rhinoplasty surgery. I recommend in-person consultations with board certified facial plastic or plastic surgeons with significant rhinoplasty experience so that they may discuss realistic expectations of surgery.
With the question you’re asking, the key is to walk the fine line in lifting the nasal tip enough to create an aesthetically pleasing appearance without being excessive and creating too much nostril show. In all likelihood there will be some increased nostril show, but an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon should be able to prevent an unnatural appearance. I recommend in-person consultations with board certified facial plastic or plastic surgeons who can discuss their expectations with you.
After harvesting ear cartilage from the conchal bowl region, I would not expect it to re-grow. That said, what you’re asking for, to return the previously harvested ear cartilage from the nose and return your nose to its original appearance, may be a very technically challenging process, depending on the maneuvers that were performed during the first surgery. Perhaps some cartilage could be removed from the other ear and transferred to the affected ear in an attempt to balance both sides. Without seeing pictures it is difficult to accurately weigh in. I suggest you return to your surgeon to discuss your concerns.
