How are the results mixing Kybella with CoolMini?

Question

I had two treatments of Coolsculpting over the past year and the doctor told me I do not have enough fat left for the device so she recommended one Kybella treatment to fine tune the results and finish off a small area under my chin. Has anyone mixed these two treatments and how were the results?

Both CoolSculpting and Kybella are great choices for treating submental fullness. Combining the treatments is a great way to provide a very customized treatment plan by utilizing the benefits of both.  Often, treating with CoolSculpting first is ideal due to the lack of down time post treatment while still being able to reduce fat volume. After debulking with CoolSculpting, Kybella can be effectively utilized to contour the treatment area by injecting areas where the CoolSculpting applicator may not have reached.  This approach minimizes the amount of downtime and maximizes the treatment area.  I recommend having a consultation with a board certified facial plastic surgeon, dermatologist, or plastic surgeon who offers both services, to determine the best course of action for your case. Usually a combination approach is best to get the most improvement. After Coolsculpting, I recommend Kybella with thermage, ultherapy, and exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is an alternative for contouring the chin, if you're a candidate. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question 6981anon. Kybella is the first and thus far only FDA approved
non-surgical injectable treatment for the double chin. Kybella is commonly combined with Cool Sculpting mini. Cool Sculpting is performed first to debulk the area. Then Kybella can be performed for the finishing touches. Combining treatments yields better results than one treatment alone. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

I agree with the recommendation of your treating physician.  Often if you have a large amount of fat it is more cost effective to have Cool-mini performed.  After the treatments if there is a small amount of fat remaining I recommend treating with Kybella.  Please consult an expert in the aging neck for the best cosmetic results.  Best, Dr. Green

Dear 6981anon:Yes, you absolutely can have Kybella after CoolSculpting. A smaller amount of Kybella would be required, probably just one vial, which would reduce the cost to you.  The results are excellent, and you will like that Kybella tightens the skin a bit as well, which CoolSculpting does not do.All the best,   Dr. Clark

Hello 6981anon,Thank you for sharing your question with us. In the absence of photos or an in person evaluation it is a little difficult to be very specific. However based on what you have described it sounds as though the advice you have been given is good. As long as there is a fat pad present Kybella will work just as its advertised and does have the advantage and flexibility to make the treatment more customized to your findings whereas CoolSculpting can be limited by "fitting" the applicator dimensions. Thanks for the great question. One of the nice things about Kybella is that the treatments are more customizable, so if your submental fat does not fit into the coolsculpting applicator, you can still use Kybella to fine tune areas. Because you have already had coolsculpting the results with Kybella likely won't be quite as dramatic, but it should still work fine to remove any excess fat the coolsculpting wasn't able to treat.
