Can I have Juvederm lip fillers a few days after minor dental work?

Question

My wisdom tooth had an absess and the gum had to be removed and cleaned. Is it safe to have juvederm in a few days if I just had this done?

If you have an abcess on your wisdom tooth, you need to wait until the infection is completely gone. Getting fillers at this time has a very high risk for complications, as the bacterias can spread trought the blood stream and tissues and you may get an infection where the filler will be injected

Hi Isabela9183, thank you for your question. I would advise you to wait at least 2 weeks before getting injected with filler. I would also complete any course of antibiotics they prescribed you as well, prior to going through with the injections. Make sure to make your injector aware of your recent dental work as well.

To be cautious, you may want to wait a couple of weeks before having your Juvederm treatment to allow any infection to completely resolve from your dental issue.  You can always consult with your doctor if you are unsure.

Thank you for your question! I would recommend waiting at least 2-4 weeks to ensure you do not have any residual gum infection before placing lip filler.  Lip filler is considered "a medical device" and you would not want to have it get infected.  Remember, lip filler is an elective procedure and you want to have it look right with the least amount of risk.  Waiting an extra few weeks is not terrible. In general, it's a good idea to fully recover from any prior procedure or surgery in the area before considering filler injections.  Keep in mind that the healing process, including any swelling, bruising or would healing from a procedure could increase risk of any side effects or complications from a filler injection (like pain, swelling, bruising or infection).To be on the safe side, wait at least 2 weeks after something like a dental procedure.  After any surgery, it's a good idea to wait around 2 months before any filler procedure.
