Is 8 days off work enough for lipo recovery?

I am a multi-drop van driver and I have 8 days to recover and get back to work. My work involves some light lifting and getting in and out of a transit van. Do you think this is enough time for flanks and full abdomen lipo? Thanks

Recovery is all based on the type of liposuction performed, I suggest you speak to your physician about their post operative care.  Most of my patients take a weekend off and are back to work but not to the gym for 10-14 days.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Like many have said, a great deal depends on how much fat - the total area you want to be treated - removed.  You have mentioned the locations but...how much extra fat in these locations will determine the length of your surgery and your recovery.

Thank you for your question.  Depending on the amount of liposuction performed during surgery, I think the likelihood of you returning to work within 8 days is very reasonable. You will still be wearing a compression garment, and should anticipate having some soreness present from surgery.  I would definitely recommend keeping your lifting to a minimum, while having the opportunity to rest during the day as you need it.

I think you are going to be fine even though you may experience some soreness.  It is going to feel like you worked out very hard for the first time in years so prepare yourself for a little soreness but 8 days is great!

It can be a good time frame to recover from lipo, just check with your doctor because there could be factors we are not considering like amount of lipo, type of job or activity level.Always follow your surgeon´s recommendations.

Most patients describe immediate recovery after liposuction as similar to the feeling of muscle soreness after an excessive workout when out of shape. This typically lasts between one and five days. Most patients will need one to three days of taking it easy and can get back to normal light-duty activities after that. Most patients can return to light exercise about a week following the procedure, though high-impact exercise, such as running, typically takes two to three weeks to tolerate without pain. Recovery times are dependent on an individual's perception, how aggressive the treatment was performed and which anatomic areas were treated. Recovery typically takes the longest after abdominal liposuction. No one can say for sure, but your game plan seems sound. I encourage my patients to take high doses of ibuprofen for any postoperative discomfort unless there are contraindications.Check with your plastic surgeon to see what he or she recommends. Yes the 9 days should be enough time off.  You will still be tender but Advil should help and you will be able to do your job.   You will not hurt yourself or your resut.   My best,  Dr C
