I think its best to be at your natural weight especially if you are going to get fat transferring done at the same time. It IS best to increase muscle tone especially if doing a hi definition procedure. Best, Dr. Emer.
Thank you for your question. It is optimal to be at your desired goal weight prior to liposuction. We all are born with only so many fat cells. They just increase in size with weight gain and decrease with weight loss. Some fat cells however are more diet resistant than others.Liposuction is best accomplished in areas of diet resistant fat to improve contour. For instance, let's say you are 30 pounds above your goal weight and you have liposuction of your diet resistant flanks. Your plastic surgeon will "liposculpture" your diet resistant flanks to be in alignment with your abdomen, back and hips. Post operatively you are delighted. Now you loose the 30 pounds and because your flanks are made up of diet resistant fat, it will APPEAR that the fat has returned to your flanks but in reality you lost fat (from loosing 30 pounds) AROUND the diet resistant flank area.So my advice:1)Get to within 5 pounds of your optimal/desired weight then undergo the liposuction.2) Make sure your surgeon is Cert. by the Am. Bd. of Plastic Surgery.3) Ideally he/she is a member of the Am. Soc. for Plastic Surgery (denoting by membership having met additional criteria and demonstrating a focus on Cosmetic Plastic Surgery)My best wishes,
Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It is a body contouring procedure. In other words, it works best on patients that have localized fat pockets that do not improve with diet and exercise. Therefore, if you are at a healthy and stable weight you will have the best results.Best Regards,Dr. Stutman
Thebest candidates for liposuction surgery are patients who are following ahealthy lifestyle and are at a stable weight but still haveareas that are diet and exercise resistant. This provides the best results forliposuction. It is not recommended to begin a drastic dietbefore surgery to lose weight.
As a general statement, it is better to reach your ideal weight before contemplating liposuction. Many patients can reach their ideal body proportions by weight loss alone. The best results obtained from liposuction often come from the combination of liposuction and weight loss together, regardless of which one came first. Regardless of weight or weight loss, patients need to be individually assessed to determine if they are a good candidate for liposuction. Many times, patients who have experienced significant weight loss are not good candidates for liposuction because of skin laxity. There are safety limits as to how much fat can be removed in a single session. Patients who are significantly overweight may be limited to how much fat can be removed in a single session, limiting the potential outcome of the procedure. You can go ahead and consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon now or do your best to lose the weight and have a consultation at that time.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
