Dear Doctors, I'm concerned with the volume loss in my face, since I used to be a little plump (and went to a stringent diet to lose 33 lbs a couple years ago). I tried restylane in my tear through and nasolabial folds. It has worne off quite quicly. As I'm looking for more of a long term solution, do you think I could benefit from a lipostructure / lipofilling in my face? Thanks in advance for your enlightened advice
Answer: Loss of volume in face Not fair! You work hard, lose weight, and this is what happens?Jacob, your best option is fat transfer, longer lasting, and your own tissue. Voluma is another good option, but lasts 2 years. See a board certified plastic surgeon in your area for more info, good luck!

Answer: Fat grafting vs fillers By reviewing your pics and your problems I believe you will be best suited for fat transfer for volumization, if you have a bit of fat that can be harvested. This fat can volumize the face and also last for 5-10 years.

Answer: Facial volume loss Thanks for your question. Congratulations on the weight loss! With significant weight loss, there will be changes in your body. You could be a good candidate for facial fat grafting and/or cosmetic fillers. Fat grafting uses an individual’s own fat to fill in facial creases and folds and to add fullness to areas such as the cheeks , lips, and backside of hands. Please find and visit a board certified plastic surgeon, look at before and after photos, read reviews, check credentials, etc.

Answer: 31 year old male with facial volume loss: Lipostructure? Thank you for your question. When we lose weight, the skin on our face loses fat, which is the same fat that suspends our cheeks higher. As a result of your major weight loss, which resulted in fat loss in your face you’re noticing hollowness. I think you would be a great candidate for fat injections. Fat is taken from one area of your body, usually the hips and injected into another area instead of synthetic fillers. Fat transfers are a safe, non-allergenic way to recontour the face and add definition to the cheeks and chin for very a natural and long lasting result.

Answer: Sculptra would be best choice. Sculptra is a great filler if used properly by an experienced doctor with this product. Over the past 9 years, I have used Sculptra for exactly the problems you point out. I do not like hyaluronic acid like Restylane or Juvederm for improving volume to the cheeks. Your tear trough is not the problem. It is the volume loss to your cheeks. Sculptra stimulates your body to make its own collagen. You would need a series of injections to slowly build up the collagen, but building up the volume slowly is a better idea. Fat grafting is another option, but a much different healing process. I would advise you to see a board certified plastic surgeon who has experience with both Sculptra and fat grafting. Good luck!
