Our first line therapy for melasma includes topical application of Melarase creams, chemical peels, laser treatment, and selective IPL. Yag laser genesis may not be the most effective tool for melasma. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
Melasma is notoriously difficult to treat. I would suggest that you schedule an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to first be examined in person. I typically start patients off with a lightening cream and a retinol. Then, I would move on to lasers of which the Laser Genesis is an option. I just don't know if it's the best one for you without seeing you.
Melasma is a difficult problem to correct and some of the treatments offered can actually worsen it. I prefer starting the patient on a home regimen with lightning cream and retinization which will help lower pigmentation and increase resilience to further pigmentation. We next follow with very conservative IPL and end with a few Laser Genesis treatments to make the skin homogeneous and uniform in tone and color. Sun block routinely is a must. Many patients are happy with this routine, but it doesn't work for everyone.
We do not recommend using Laser Genesis Technologies in the treatment of MElasma. Melasma is a hormonally driven pigmentation of the skin: commonly found in women of child baring ages. Aside from certain brightening at home treatments, we suggest having an IPL treatment for reduction of the pigment. IPL is a sensitive yet effective treatment to "pull" pigment out of the skin.
Melasma is a deeper form of pigment. Laser Genesis only penetrates the very upper layers of the skin, which is not where melasma lies. So it's not effective to treat melasma. I recommend either Cosmelan (which is an in-office peel and home care kit) and/or IPL, as both of these target deeper layers where melasma is located. Seek in-person treatment with a trained medical professional for appropriate care."
Of these two treatments, I'd say Laser Genesis, but without seeing you in person, it is truly impossible to say if the effects will be enough. It's going to depend on the state of your skin and the depth of any fine lines and wrinkles. I would suggest that you schedule a consultation with a...
No. I don't think that Laser Genesis is a good option for your hands. It won't restore plumpness and most of the age spots on the hands are deeper than the surface area that this laser treats. You would have better luck with either a filler or fat grafting.
Melasma lies deep within the skin's layers so it won't be affected positively by the Laser Genesis as that is a very superficial treatment for surface reds and browns. If your Med Spa doesn't know the answer to this question it concerns me that you aren't being treated at the right place... A...
