My mom got her BBL done a couple weeks ago. I want to get my BBL done on December. My mom was telling me that her surgeon told her there was a new law that BBL’s can only have 5 lbs of fat taken out and transferred.
Answer: Fat removal limits with BBL Thank you for your question. The answer depends on the jurisdiction and your own body size. There are different limits either legislated or provided by regulatory bodies that can vary by state or province. ASAPS, CSAPS and ASPS also have guidelines. Most reflect a limit of 5 litres (about 10 lbs of fat) if the only procedure is liposuction and less (3-4 litres) if there is an additional concurrent procedure such as tummy tuck done under the same anaesthetic. Of course, it also depends if you are 120 lbs or 220 lbs, and surgeons adjust the numbers down based on body mass and number of sites (more sites means more swelling and higher risk of fluid balance issues.) Patients with additional medical issues such as diabetes or habits such as smoking might not be candidates or need to consider more limited surgery for safety reasons. It is best to have a consultation with a board certified Plastic Surgeon in your area that has experience and a good reputation for this surgery. They can give you a good idea what limitations exist for fat extraction based on a proper examination and history.

Answer: Q:How much fat can be extracted for a BBL and how many CC are in 5 lbs ? The operation is a straightforward outpatient procedure in which up to 5 liters of fat are liposuctioned through only a few tiny incisions in discrete locations. The fat is purified in the operating room by gravity sedimentation and transferred to syringes. The fat is injected above the gluteus muscles and superficially under the skin into the fat and surrounding tissue of the buttocks.

Answer: BBL candidate Dear Stefff16, It is recommended that maximum of 5 liters of fat is liposuctions if the surgery is done in surgical centers and not in hospital. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Maximum Fat Removal Thank you for your question. The American Society of Plastic Surgery guidelines recommends only 5L of fat can be performed safely in an outpatient setting (not a hospital), though in Florida the law only allows 4L of fat to be removed in an outpatient setting. In my experience, this is more than enough fat to be removed and processed for transfer into the buttocks. In terms of safety, the fat should never be injected into the muscle and should only be transferred into the subcutaneous layer of fat. I recommend discussing it further with your plastic surgeon and he can assess you and determine what can be done to help you achieve the aesthetic results you desire.Kamran Azad MD, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
