Thank you for your question. After this procedure is good to follow all your PS post op recommendations to have the best results of your desire.Respectfully,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
We recommend all patients to have healthy eating habits before and after surgery. Dieting (specially crash diets) are not recommended as we need you well nourished before, during and specially for healing after surgery.
I do not think that it is any secret that patients who have healthy eating habits before and after liposuction tend to heal the best. My practice provides a post-op checklist encouraging patients to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein (100 grams/day) into their diets, while reducing the intake of sugars, simple carbohydrates, and saturated fats. My patients find that they can satisfy the recommended 100 grams of protein a day and also boost their energy by drinking 3 hormone free protein shakes, each of which contains 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar, 3 grams of fat, and 24 vitamins and minerals.
Dear yrivers,A well balanced diet is very important in post-operative period. Every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello dear! Thanks for the question and provided information as well.I encourage you to maintain a clean and healthy diet, incorporate fruits, vegetables, cut sugars and carbs, consume less salt, along with exercise. If you have any concerns, I suggest you to follow up close with your plastic surgeon.Good luck :)
Definitely check with your PS as they will likely have recommendations for you. For my patients I ask them to drink a lot of water and or Pedialyte (no caffeine and no salty liquids such as Gatorade or canned soup) for the first few weeks after surgery. The more lipoaspirate that is removed, the more fluids you must consume. As far as food you want to follow a low salt diet and make healthy choices to maintain your results.
Recovery from surgery requires slightly increased Caloric needs during the first few days. This is not enough that people need to make a significant change in their diet. There are also some fluid shifts from the swelling that needs to be accounted for but the brain will generally create a sense of thirst if people are behind fluid wise. Therefore simply eating normally if you’re hungry and drinking if you’re thirsty is sufficient. For those who are prescribed narcotic pain medication almost everyone will deal with some version of constipation. For this increasing fiber may be a good idea and is recommended in my practice. Are usually have people use psyllium husk’s Like Metamucil during the few days they take prescription pain medication.Plastic surgeons may have more specific recommendations but in my opinion none of these are particularly important in young healthy people having elective procedures. The kidneys know what to do.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
