This area was stabbed over but the scab fell off. The area when I run my fingers over it over my sports bra feels like a hole. I'm concerned. My left boob healed normally, only this side is having issues. What should I do? Will this heal on its own? Should it have healed by now?
Answer: Wound separation after breast augmentation Hi, Thanks for posting your question. I am happy to try and help you. It is important to remember that a board certified plastic surgeon will be your best resource when it comes to an accurate assessment of your situation, and concerns. Having said that, large open wounds heal in stages. These types of wounds occur in areas of maximal tension and when the tension over comes the strength of the skin or stitches the wound will open. Contributing factors are the genetics of the patient, blood supply to the area and smoking history to name some major players. Once the wound has opened it will typically spread until there is not tension remaining. So a wide wound was under a fair amount of tension. After it opens, the wound will drain a bit and then the underlying tissues will begin efforts to try and close the wound. It will do this by making certain types of cells grow and they in turn will start building the necessary structures to support new skin growing over. This cellular layer will be beefy red. This will continue until the entire wound is beefy red without the yellow of fat showing. After that the skin will grow over as a scar layer and start to contract and remodel. This closure rate will depend on the size of the wound it usually looks like nothing is happening for a few weeks and then bamm the wound seems to close very quickly. This process may usually take a few months to close. Best wishes, Dr. Michael J. Brown Northern Virginia Plastic Surgeon

CONTACT NOW Answer: Wound separation after lift and implants Thank you for your question and photos. Unfortunately this is the most common area to have a wound problem with the anchor type scar. This will heal on it's own but I would have your surgeon keep close tabs on you and the progress of the wound as the implant can be at mild risk with any open wound on the breast. Best wishes.

Answer: I have an open wound where anchor T is from lift/implants. I'm 7.5 weeks post op. Will it heal on its own? I appreciate your question. Since there has been a change in your post op course, please contact your surgeon so he/she can examine you and recommend most appropriate treatment plan at this time. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative breast surgery. Best of luck! Dr. Schwartz
