There are many paths to good results. Some doctors use bra's and bands after surgery, some are very restrictive regarding movement, some use no bra's and bands and some have no restrictions in movement after surgery. They choose these depending on their own experience in getting their best results after their particular surgical technique. However, once you start down a path, it is usually best to see it though to the end. These types of specific questions are best made to your plastic surgeon. I am a plastic surgeon who uses both techniques, so I am open minded to both sides of the debate regarding breast bands. Often, I adapt my postoperative care plan to what I am seeing with my patients during their recovery. Every patient is different. Perhaps your implants are riding high, and a band is being used to help relax the muscle and allow the implants to drop faster. Maybe you don't need it any more? I can't tell from here.Your surgeon knows more about your surgery than any online responder. While the final results are more dependent on the surgery than the aftercare, the aftercare is still important. When implants are placed behind the muscle, I find that patients are more comfortable with a bra and band than bouncing free, and that the implants drop faster. For implant in front of the muscle, I do not use a band.I am assuming you chose your plastic surgeon because you like their results. Their post-operative recommendations are part of the process of achieving those results. I don't think it would be a good idea to take a procedure performed by a plastic surgeon who uses a post operative band, and then follow the advice of a surgeon who knows nothing about the particulars of your operation, especially if those doctors never use bands. Our techniques may be different than you doctor's, and may have different problems associated with them.If you are having a lot of pain or discomfort wearing the band, consult your doctor. Maybe it is too tight, or in the wrong position. You may have another problem that needs to be addressed. If the main problem is that the band interferes with fashion, it's a temporary problem that will help get you the best result possible for future fashion choices.
I appreciate your question.Submuscular implants tend to ride high early on so The bandeau helps push the implants down. When it's used, why , how long etc varies from patient to patient. The best way to assess and givetrue advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certifiedplastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative breast surgery.Best of luck!Dr. Schwartz
#breastaugmentation and postoperative carethis will vary from patient to patient. Some patients may be placed in a bra, otherswill wear an elastic bandage. Yourdoctor will decide after surgery and in subsequent weeks, which dressing willsuit your needs.the band pushes the implants down. sub muscular #implants tend to ride high early on
Wearinga breast binding worn after breast augmentation has several purposes. 1. It can help control swelling in the upperpole of the breast. 2. It can help tokeep the implants resting in a lower position. 3. It can counteract the forces of the pectoralis muscle which aretrying to pull the implant up. Not everydoctor uses a breast band after every breast augmentation. Some surgeons do and some don’t. Most surgeons, however, decide whether theyneed it depending on the patient, their anatomy, size of implants, and desiredresults. Therefore, it is difficult tosay if you will need it or how long. That will really be up to your surgeon.
Hi and thanks for your question. It really depends on your plastic surgeon´s own experience, I usually recommend band when implants are placed under the muscle to stabilize them. The postoperative bra makes easier putting it on and taking it off because of the zipper in front of it.Regards.Dr. Milla
Hello and thanks. Binding after breast augmentation is an elective option used to control high-riding implants that persist for a long period after surgery or for uneven upper poles. Breast implants usually settle into position at about 3-4 months. Hope this info helps. Dr. B
The use of bands after breast augmentation is most often in the setting of submuscular breast augmentation with smooth implants. The pocket for the implant with smooth implants is often made a bit larger then the implant and the muscle swelling and activity of the muscle can make the implant look a bit high for weeks and even a few months before it all settles to look fabulous. The band may help the implant settle faster so you look better quicker. Bands, massage and similar activities are less likely to be suggested by your surgeon if you have an anatomic (egg shaped) or round textured implants. Each surgeon has his or her own set of maneuvers to get you to the best goal. Best of luck
Thank you for your question. Plastic surgeons differ on their exact postoperative routine for breast augmentation patients. Some surgeons feel that by adding an elastic band at the top the breast will help to stretch out the pocket around the implant, And thus allowing the implant to settle more quickly. Other surgeons believe that this does not tend to make any difference. I would say to you that if this is uncomfortable to you, you might ask your surgeon if you can avoid that component of the postoperative care routine.
I do not recommend or place any compressive wrap on my patients following breast augmentation surgery. In fact, patients leave my surgical center without any supportive bra at all. A comfy zip up hoodie is the attire for the day, and I recommend to all my BA patients that they do their hair and make-up and go out to a dinner and movie that night. This routine is part of what has been described and published as the "rapid recovery" breast augmentation. I believe post-op compression significantly increases pain and prolongs discomfort, and may compromise blood flow to healing tissues. Some surgeons recommend an elastic bandeau placed above the breasts to help push the implants down when they have been placed in too high a position. I have never found post-op compression to be effective in manipulating or adjusting implant location, but there is nothing more annoying than when another surgeon gives my patient contrary advice, so by all means, ask your surgeon about his/her own expectations.
Hi,Thanks for posting your question. I am happy to try and help you. In my practice, there is no bands or bras used in the recovery. So I can not answer this better. The best advice that I can give you is that you should speak to your plasticsurgeon. Online consultants are not the appropriate source of information foryou; your plastic surgeon should be your resource when it comes topostoperative concerns. This is important because every surgeon has different perspectives, the onlyone that should be important is the one that operated on you ;)Best wishes, Dr. Michael J.
