Ok so I have been to my ps and I have posted 3 different questions. But as I have been laying on floor in hopes of softening the scar tissue from capsular contracture in which my ps said I had I've noticed the pain seems like it is coming from near my aerola? At times it hurts to lay down on it and at times it doesn't? Also notice if I reposition breast it eases some? I guess my question is can capsular contracture cause referred pain that feels like it right behind the nipple near the areola?

Answer: Capsular contracture prevention after breast augmentation Thanks for posting your question. I am happy to try and help you. It is important to remember that a board certified plastic surgeon will be your best resource when it comes to an accurate assessment of your situation, and concerns. Having said that, capsular contracture is a very unfortunate condition that may develop after breast augmentation surgery. The cause is an enigma and we have some suspicions that it may be caused by subclinical bacterial infection, or excessive bleeding during or after surgery. The treatment is also complicated and some PS will through the kitchen sink at it trying to make it go away. Sometimes it works, other times it does not. Ultrasound, asthma medications, reoperating, scar tissue removal, changing to a different breast pocket, breast implant exchange and even implant removal have been suggested to treat it. The other problem is that it may go away after all of these heroic efforts only to have it return. In other cases, one of these may work and it does not come back. It is a tough problem. There is really nothing you can do to prevent this, since we do not know what causes it. Your PS will do everything possible to potentially prevent this. Luckily it occurs rarely. Early movement of round smooth implants is a good idea. But if you have textured, then early movement is a bad idea. I hope you found this helpful. Have a great day. Best wishes, Dr. Michael J. Answer: Capsular contracture pain Thank you for your question and I'm sorry to hear you are going through problems with capsular contract and breast pain. Pain from capsular contracture can be hard to localize and could theoretically feel like it is coming from around your areola. Sensation after a breast augmentation an also change a little and you may have some "referred" pain as you refer to. Your plastic surgeon will be able to recommend the best course of action and to do a physical exam to try and determine what you are feeling. Best of luck with your treatment and recovery.
