Question

I had my BA 5 weeks ago with a circumariolar lift. 435cc's. I've had to go in a few times due to my stitches popping through. My PS said its because my scars are thin? Is this normal?

Thank you for your question and photos.  Sutures can at times work their way out to the skin level.  This is not an allergy to the sutures or a bad reaction.  The knot of the suture is a large clump of material and although it will dissolve with time, at times it may get pushed to the surface by your body.  We simply snip it and remove it and this will fix the problem.  Best wishes.

Dear itsme12In thin skin patients, it is possible to get sutures that extrude and when that occurs they can be removed. Follow closely with your surgeon and follow his or her advice. Your results look great. congratulations!

Yes, this is not unusual. Particularly around the nipple. Most of these stitches are dissolvable and will take care of themselves, but I'm glad that you've been speaking with your surgeon. It's always best to err on the side of caution.

The skin around the areola is thin and as the stitches work their way out, you may feel them. These are most often  dissolvable to you can leave them alone if you want and they're not poking you. Good luck.

Thank you for your question.The stitches are used can 3-4 months to dissolve completely.  So this may keep happening for a while, unfortunately yes this can happen.  Some people dissolve the stitches without any problem, then there are people who spit every stitch that is put in.  It doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong, hang in there and be patient throughout your healing.  Good luck with recovery.

and its a result of many factors from patient, to suture material, to surgeon technique.  At this point, all you can do is remove the sutures as they pop out.  It should not impact your procedure or overall results.  But it does require your patience.  If you ever have spreading redness from your incisions, you must let your surgeon know.

Thanking you for your question. Certain sutures under the skin can work their way out in certian patients. This is more common when using using a permanent suture. This is less common when using a dissolvable suture. We call this a spitting suture. You should consult with your Plastic Surgeon about this matter.

This is very common with dissolvable sutures that, especially in some patients, tend to surface before being dissolved and need to be removed or trimmed.Nothing to worry about, your result is good and your surgeon is dealing with the sutures in the right way.

resource when it comes to an accurate assessment of your situation, and
concerns.

Having said that, different surgeons will use different techniques to close the
wounds. There is no one way to do it. There is no one right way to do it
either. I am sure if you contacted your PS office they will be happy to answer
this with the BEST answer.BTW, you have a lovely result.
