I have Cigna insurance. Will cover tummy tuck?

I had cervical cancer at 23..I've had 6 abdominal surgeries, I'm have muscle spasms in the pelvic floor. I have no tone to my midsection. I love at chiropractor due to lower back pain. No matter how many crunches I do there are no results. What wld I need to have submitted to the insurance co. To get approval.

Thanks for your question. Insurance will typically not cover elective cosmetic surgery. You can double check with your insurance. Be sure to find a board certified plastic surgeon who performs at least 100 of these procedures every year. Look at the before/afters on the website, ask your doctor for referrals, double check their board certification on the American Board of Plastic Surgery website.

Your tummy tuck will not be covered by any insurance.  Even in your situation tummy tuck is a cosmetic operation and not medically necessary.

I am sorry to hear about your situation.  Cancer is a difficult problem at any age but especially challenging in one so young.  Despite all your symptoms, I am afraid insurance will not cover your tummy tuck. It is considered a cosmetic operation.

Thank you for your question. Tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure usually not covered by insurance. It is primarily to remove the excess skin and tighten the lax muscles. Panniculectomy may be covered by insurance occasionally, if it is medically necessary. Please see a physician for evaluation.

A tummy tuck is never done to treat back pain, although it does sometimes help. It would have absolutely no effect on the pelvic floor. Abdominoplasty is always a cosmetic procedure and not covered by insurance, but if you have bad or painful scarring of the abdomen a scar revision is sometimes covered.
