Is it necessary to book multiple consultations for a breast augmentation?

Thank you for your question.  A second/third opinion is not necessary, but often is helpful if you are not 100% comfortable with the first surgeon you see.  Having said that, if you like your surgeon's before/after photos, trust their credentials, and generally comfortable with them, then I see no reason not to proceed with that surgeon, even if it is the first one.  Good luck.  

Yes, it is vital.  Would you ever purchase your first home after seeing only 1 house?  By seeing another surgeon, this will confirm the first surgeon is the perfect surgeon for you, or tell you that the first surgeons isn't everything that you thought he was.  I recommend an in-office examination as well as a detailed discussion with a surgeon who you are comfortable with.   Finally, make sure your surgeon is a Double-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).Best,Dr. DesaiBeverly Hills Institute for Aesthetic Plastic SurgeryHarvard Educated, Beverly Hills & Miami Beach Trained, Double-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

If you feel comfortable with that surgeon, have good rapport with them, and they have a good understanding of your expectations, then there’s probably no need to see other surgeons.  

It's not necessary unless YOU feel like you need multiple consultations.  If you find someone with a good reputation and you like their team and office set up, and you have trust in the surgeon, then it's reasonable to proceed.  If you don't, or if you need more confidence that you would like more education and advice, you can always have more consultations.  Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Be certain your surgeon is properly certified.  I've attached a link where you can start your search. 

Eyag:  While it is very common for patients to obtain a consultation from 2 or 3 Plastic Surgeons prior to their procedure there is nothing wrong with signing up with the first Board Certified Plastic Surgeon you consult with as long as you feel completely comfortable with him or her.Best of luck to you!G. Seeing more than one surgeon is not necessary but often helpful for comparison. Seeking second opinions may make you even more sure of your first choice. Most patients will obtain more than one consultation because this is what they are told to do. We plastic surgeons often do things somewhat differently and therefore these multiple opinions can be helpful, or can be somewhat confusing. If you are comfortable with the surgeon, staff and facility in which they operate as well as like their before and after results, it is not unreasonable to obtain only one consultation. I know Dr Gartner, since we work in the same community and based on what I know, he is a fine plastic surgeon.

It is not necessary to have multiple consultations if you are comfortable with your plastic surgeon. At your appointment, if you are able to look at before and after photos of women with similar measurements, it will help you determine your goal size and provide additional confirmation and reassurance. Hello and thank you for the complement and your question.  I get this question a lot, and I actually encourage patients in my own office to see others as well for them to get a frame of reference and feel more comfortable about their decision.  In your consultation, be sure the plastic surgeon addresses all
your concerns and discusses the surgery details including the risks and
benefits of the procedure, recovery time, and post-operative course. 
Also, be sure to see plenty of before-and-after pictures in real women, and not
just computer-generated images, who have a similar preoperative breast appearance to yours,
in terms of pigment and shape, and preferably at different time
frames  in their recovery (3 weeks out, 3 months out, etc) to more accurately predict your own surgical
outcome.  And lastly, I think the most important component of the
consultation is to establish a good connection with your plastic surgeon.  You mentioned you were comfortable with your plastic surgeon.  This is key.  If you don’t feel you have a good connection
with your plastic surgeon after your consultation, he/she may not be the best
surgeon for you.Good luck.
