Would a sliding genioplasty & chin liposuction fix weak & double chin? (Photo)

I’m happy with my profile view but not side profile. I have a weak chin and a double chin (also no jawline). Would a sliding genioplasty and chin liposuction fix this? One of my biggest concerns is the possibility of a sliding genioplasty ruining my profile view, I’ve seen photos of gone wrong s.g.

Thank you for submitting your questions and photos.  Based on the photo submitted, you are probably a great candidate for a genioplasty.  There are several profile options to choose.  You’ll need to make sure your plastic surgeon is board certified and experienced in this procedure so that she/he chooses the right fit for you.  In order to further define your jawline, a small amount of liposuction to the neck would be a great options. I appreciate you, including your picture and in my opinion sliding genioplasty would be an excellent choice to enhance your profile. I don't think you would need submental vital suction in addition.  Of course, a consultation would be necessary to make sure that you do not have any other concerns that need to be discussed such as your jaw position, that would also influence your profile.. In my 20 years plus of experience with genioplasty. It is a procedure that has had a significant positive impact in my patients lives.

In your situation, instead of having a sliding genioplasty, you could get a small chin, implant placed plus use liposuction in renuvion to contour out your neck region. This would take approximately one hour of surgery, outpatient and full recovery and as little as five days.

You may potentially be a jaw surgery candidate but that is a much larger surgery and we would need more information. If you are just looking for cosmetic procedures, you could definitely benefit from a genioplasty. Bringing your chin forward and slightly down would create definition and bring balance to your profile. A genioplasty will also elongate your jawline, creating more contour. You may consider jawline or submental lipo as well, although the genioplasty may fix that issue by itself. Another procedure to consider would be buccal fat removal. This would reduce some of the fullness in your lower cheeks, creating a little more contour as well. Hi ciyong5525. You have actually described two separate problems, and that distinction matters, because one operation will not necessarily fix both. A weak chin is about projection, how far the chin comes forward. A double chin and soft jawline are usually about fat under the chin and, in some people, a little skin or muscle laxity in the neck. A sliding genioplasty moves the chin bone forward and can be a good way to add projection, especially when the shortfall is significant. It is a bony operation, most often done by maxillofacial or craniofacial surgeons, and your instinct to worry about the profile is a fair one. In the right hands it is predictable, but it needs careful planning against your bite and proportions. For more modest projection a chin implant is a simpler alternative. Chin liposuction can genuinely sharpen the area when the problem is truly fat sitting above a good platform, but if the looseness is skin or a low neckline, liposuction alone can disappoint and sometimes make loose skin look emptier. Profiles tend to go wrong when the plan is chosen from a photo rather than from a proper look at your bone, bite, fat and skin together. I would see a surgeon in person, ideally one who can talk you through both the bony and the soft-tissue options, before committing to anything. I work only on faces, and getting this balance right is exactly what an in-person assessment is for.

Genioplasty is certainly an option to increase the projection of your chin, and this can be performed in conjunction with liposuction to the neck, or other procedures. It is important to review all views of your face to ensure any surgical plan addresses your concerns in harmony with the rest of your face. While genioplasty is often very successful, all surgery carries the potential for risks and these will be discussed by your surgeon.
