Do you have a full-size Mandible which has many aesthetic advantages. To make an accurate assessment requires evaluation of your dental occlusion. Your lower lip has more forward projection in the upper lip, but the overall balance of your lip and I’m guessing your dental occlusion is normal, or potentially mild underbite. It looks like your Maxima also has a little bit excess projection around your upper teeth. Having a well project in Mandible prevents people from having a double chin, creates well defined jawline, prevents premature jowl formation, and gives an appearance of personal strength and authority. Your chin has an appropriate shape and contour. Shortening your mandible is probably not in your best interest. It’s possible mid face augmentation could be beneficial. This can be done with implants, fat, transfer, or with the use a Fillers. I think your overall facial balance and contour is appropriate, and there’s something to be said about excepting what each of us was given without the need for intervention. In terms of getting an accurate assessment, consider consulting with providers who have cranial facial surgery background. This could be providers or oral surgeons or plastic surgeons with cranial facial fellowship training. Most plastic surgeons tend to be soft tissue oriented, which is fine for many conditions and treatment. Oral surgeons tend to be more facial, skeletal oriented in regards to their assessment, which is usually the underlying issue when it comes to facial aesthetics on young people. In my opinion, having a stronger mandible is far better than having a weak one. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
