Can I drink 5 days before my breast augmentation?

It is strongly recommended to avoid alcohol for at least one week, but better yet, two weeks prior to any surgical procedure.  This is not just breast surgery but any surgery.  Alcohol can make your blood thin (in a less reversible way than being able to flush it out with water) and your blood being thin can predispose you to increased bleeding.  If you are going to drink anyway - best to at least let our surgeon know so he or she is aware.  There will me many more concerts, but very few surgeries.  Maybe the sacrifice of some alcohol for a night is worth it to maximize the safety of your surgery?

If your surgeon advised you to stop drinking at least a week before surgery, then I would suggest you follow their advice. Alcohol consumption can cause bleeding complications and a prolonged, more intense recovery. Water will not help, since the alcohol still has to get processed by your body. It’s safer to avoid it entirely as advised.

It is recommended to avoid alcohol 1 week prior to surgery for a variety of reasons. If you are not able to attend a concert without drinking, then it probably comes down to a choice between the concert and your surgery....

Thank you for your question. It is best to completely avoid any type of alcohol for at least 1-2 weeks prior to your surgery to reduce complications associated with bleeding. It really isn't worth drinking to increase your chance of complications. I suggest that you either choose to go to the concert and not drink, or don't go to the concert or the third option is to reschedule your surgery. In my opinion, you need to prioritize your health and safety when having any type of surgery. If that means not drinking at a concert or postponing your surgery, that is what it will take. I would not recommend to drink two weeks prior to your surgery. If you must drink then reschedule your surgery. You can increase the risk of bleeding when you drink.Good luck!

I'd follow your surgeon's directions.  While a single beer or glass of wine a few days before surgery probably wouldn't be a problem, I'd be concerned that a 3 day concert event would probably be too much of a temptation. You may have to choose between a safe, uneventful breast augmentation and the concert.  Sorry!
