I just had male gyno surgery. My doctor told me to wear the compression wrap for 3 days then I could remove it. Is this normal?

Thank you for your question.After your #gynecomastia #surgery, you will be required to wear a #compression #garment after surgery
for the next few weeks. The extra pressure this garment provides helps
reduce swelling and discomfort. You should not remove this garment at all until
the second or third day after surgery. After that, feel free to remove the
garment temporarily for showering or laundering. We want you to have
circumferential pressure for 4-6 weeks, but you may switch to an exercise compression
garment when advised.Ask your #BoardCertified #PlasticSurgeon what they recommend.

Best advice is to follow your doctor's suggested protocol. I usually suggest the garment worn for two weeks and removal for showering.

If your procedure was relatively minor with no liposuction, your Plastic Surgeon may feel that you have minimal risk of fluid accumulation and will have minor swelling. Plastic Surgeons have different preferences for compression wear  and sometimes decide this on a case by case basis. Compression garment recommendations varies from surgeon to surgeon. It is not clear if they will make a difference in the final outcome though may shorten this time period. In general you should always follow your surgeon's recommendations. #malebreastreduction#gynecomastia

Thank you for your question and congratulations on your gynecomastia surgery.  If you had relatively little glandular development, direct excision and a few days of compression garment use may be sufficient for your recovery.  Be sure to maintain close follow-up appointments to ensure uneventful healling

I would advise that you follow your surgeons advice.   If only the glandular tissue was excised then 3 days may be reasonable. If you had liposuction I typically recommend that you wear the compression garment for the first 4-6 weeks. Please follow up with your plastic surgeon regarding their specific postoperative recommendations.

Thank you for your question.  If did not have liposuction then a compression bandage for a short duration would be acceptable.  If you had liposuction then a compression garment for 6 weeks is generally the rule.

Surgeons have a wide range of preferences, but I typically have my patients wear a compression vest/garment for 4 weeks at all times and then another 2 weeks after that at night only. The amount of compression and length of time really depends on how involved your procedure was, but it can help prevent the accumulation of fluid under your skin (seroma). You should check with your surgeon again to see if further compression is needed in your case. 

Since you had excision of the glandular tissue, rather than liposuction, wearing a compression garment for 3-4 days is OK. However, there would be no harm in wearing it longer if you do not find it too inconvenient. Wearing it longer might cause the normal post op sweeling to subside more rapidly.
