It depends in part how far over the age of 41 is when one has surgery. In general, someone under the age of 50 without any past history or symptoms of cardiac issues would not require cardiac clearance prior to general anesthesia required for liposuction. Your plastic surgeon will perform a good exam and asking many questions regarding your general health which will help determine if you are at higher risk than average.
In general someone in their 40s with no known health problems and no specific reason to suspect cardiac issues would not need a cardiac work up before surgery. Your surgeon will determine this based on your history and a physical exam before surgery. Hope that helps!
If you are undergoing general anesthetsia I suggest a clearance, all my patients get one regardless if they are over 45 and healthy -- although my procedures are done when the patient is awake which has much less risk. Best, Dr. Emer.
Thank you for the question.Typically no cardiac work up is necessary for someone In their 40's with no history of any medical problems and undergoing liposuction. I typically do a thorough history and physical and identify patients at high risk such smokers, diabetic etc... and have them see their internists and cardiologists as necessary.Make sure you are seeing a Board Certifyed Plastic Surgeon for your surgery.Best RegardsNagi T Ayoub MD, FACS
Thank you for your question and photos. For healthy patients over 40, I usually have them get basic lab work and a medical clearance from their doctor. If you are younger and healthy with no cardiac symptoms, there would not usually be a need for an EKG.So, I would not be too concerned about the EKG before liposuction and a fat transfer procedure. However, if your doctor requires it, it is a harmless and easy test. Best of luck to you!
Cardiac or medical clearance is based on your prior medical history and for those who are otherwise well and not on medication a heart evaluation or EKG is generally not required until age 50.
In most cases, a cardiac clearance is NOT needed before liposuction and fat transfer. Your surgeon and primary care doctor are the best ones to decide this.
Standards are slightly different throughout the country and by surgeon/facility but, in general, a healthy person under 40 does not need a cardiac clearance. Starting at age 40 or 45 (again depending on the above) and ECG (used to be called EKG) may be recommended. More than that is not usually required, unless you have underlying health problems, a cardiac history, etc....in which case the entire procedure may be ill-advised.You should discuss this with your PS and your internist, and then work out a plan that is appropriate and safe.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of #RealSelf100@RealSelf
Post-operative swelling after liposuction is a very common issue. Factors that play a big role include:1. Type of liposuction (manual, power-assist, laser)2. Body area (for example, back usually recovers faster than belly)3. Volume of fat removed4. Recovery protocol (compression garment, massage...
Neck liposuction costs can vary considerably depending on the setting in which it is performed. In an office setting it can be significantly more affordable due to the fact that it can be performed with local anesthesia only and there is no need for anesthesia or operating room costs....
Thank you for your question. Treating the buffalo hump is commonly done by liposuction. However, if this is a recurrent concern for you, then you may want to consider surgery to excise it as well.
