After a rhinoplasty how long until I will be able to breath out of nose?

Typically most patients can breathe pretty well 7 days after nose surgery, once they have been cleaned out in the office. Full breathing result is usually seen at 1-3 months  

Typically most patients take a week or two in our practice to hear form our patients that they can breathe comfortably through the nose.  Be sure to discuss with your board certified plastic surgeon exactly what your goals are, and how reliably they can be expected to be achieved.

After a nose job without packing, your nose will feel a little stuffy after a rhinoplasty for 1-2 weeks. Using saline drops can help moisten the airway, keeping your head elevated can help decrease swelling, and taking steroids (if you had your nose broken during the surgery to reposition bones) will help decrease swelling as well. Great question. In general you will be stuffy for about 4 weeks. Oddly enough, if you have problems with a deviated septum, and that gets fixed at the same time, your breathing can actually be better than before almost immediately. You are right though that every patient is a little different. Always trust and defer to your own surgeon as they know your situation best of all. Good luck.

Hello, as you mentioned there is a lot of variability after nose surgery regarding when you can expect to breathe thru your nose. In general, I estimate between 5-7 days. You will notice airflow slowly return and then gradually improve with passing days. Hope that helps and thanks

After surgery there are two phases of breathing recovery. The first six days followed by the next three weeks. My technique of rhinoplasty consists exclusively of closed (endonasal) rhinoplasty. Typically no packing is required immediately after the surgery. Although breathing is somewhat diminished at this time, the patient still has an option of air passage. Five days after the surgery, once the external nasal splint is taken off, and internal crusts are removed from the nostrils the patient will notice a significant improvement in their breathing. Open rhinoplasty typically requires prolonged nasal packing because of the extensive incisions that are made. This will obviously create a temporary complete obstruction of the nasal passages, which eventually will resolve when the packing is removed and time goes by.

  Most patients have moderate nasal obstruction after a rhinoplasty procedure for the first week or so.  Breathing improves on the second week and as the swelling goes down over the next several months, breathing tends to improve.

Rhinoplasty without packing typically results in a sense of severe congestion like a very bad cold without being sick. Most patients are relieved of this within 2-4 weeks with continued further improvement over time. External swelling may take up to a year to resolve.

Initially your nose will be swollen and you will not be allowed to clean your nose for about a week. This will cause you to have difficult breathing out of your nose initially.

You may feel stuffy for 4 to 6 weeks.  This will depend on what was done in your procedure.   You will have swelling on the inside as well as the outside.  Follow up with your surgeon so he can monitor your progress.
