Thank you very much for this interesting question.Actually one of the main objectives of abdominoplasty is stretch marks surgically removing, all those who are below the navel and sometimes if there is sufficient sagging sking we can even remove stretch marks that are above this level. Therefore, the abdominoplasty eliminate stretch marks not produced them. Kind regards,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
Typically the stretch marks present in the lower abdomen are removed during a tummy tuck. The ones above the belly button, if present, are shifted down towards the incision. But the overall amount of stretch marks is less. The remaining ones may look different afterwards but not normally in a bothersome way. A patient does not typically get new stretch marks from the tummy tuck itself. Hope that helps. Take care,Dr. Howell
Hello, and thank you for this question. I do not believe that you may get more stretch marks ,in fact many times with abdominoplasty the stretch marks will be removed. You can discuss all of this with a plastic surgeon in your area which would include a full physical examination to gauge the quality of your skin prior to this procedure. Best of luck.
Thank you for your email. It would be unusual to develop new stretch marks following an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, but stretch marks are due to undue tension in the skin that causes an actual fracture of the dermis. This is usually related to pregnancy or massive weight gain, but we also see this on occasion in breast augmentation in breasts that were tight. As a rule, most of the existing stretch marks that exist in the tummy skin that is below the belly button can often be eliminated, and it would be unusual to see new ones develop after that. More information can be derived during your consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in body contouring surgery.Best of luck to you in achieving the enhancement you are seeking.
The purpose of a tummy tuck is actually to remove stretch marks and while your question makes total sense because the skin will be stretched, the simple answer is no. Stretch marks occur because of expansion of the space beneath the skin such as with weight gain, pregnancy, sometimes breasts augmentation and even sometimes in weight lifters with rapid muscle expansion. You should not develop more stretch marks from the tummy tuck unless you were to gain weight afterwards or become pregnant. Best of luck should you decide to pursue a tummy tuck!
Thank you for your question. You do not develop stretch marks with a tummy tuck, but because of the tightening and stretching of the skin when it is being pulled down, existing stretch marks can worsen. These are typically any stretch marks found above your belly button prior to surgery. These can become wider, longer, or more apparent in color. Be sure to see a board certified plastic surgeon who can help walk you through the possible effects of a tummy tuck.
Thank you for your question. Abdominoplasty surgery does not cause stretch marks. By tightening stomach muscles and then pulling and excising the excess skin, there isn't a huge amount of outward force to the abdomen. We ask our patients to walk in a bent position and sleep in a reclined position for the first week after surgery. This helps reduce any tension while the sutures are healing.
