Are twilight anesthesia and local okay for lower bleph, if patient is very scared and nervous?

It is very common to perform lower blepharoplasty procedure under twilight and local anastasia. An experienced anesthesiologist will be able to titrate the depth of anesthesia to the patient's comfort level and safety at the same time. Under particular circumstances performing this procedure under general anesthesia is also an option but that decision depends on the discretion of the surgeon and anesthesiologist, based on the whole clinical picture. 

Lower eyelids surgery can be done with local anesthesia with some sedation.  In some cases, when more advanced fat transposition techniques are used, twilight sleep might be more comfortable. Choose your surgeon based on his skill level and reputation, as opposed to what type of anesthesia he/she uses.

We perform most of our bleph operations with twighlight and local anesthesia.  in my experience it works very well.  Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. This is a procedure that is very amenable to local or twilight anesthesia.  Either of these involves some sedation, depending on the patient's needs.  Please be open and honest with your surgeon about your apprehension when scheduling your surgery so that these needs are appropriately addressed.

Sedation anesthesia (a.k.a. twilight anesthesia) is a great choice for upper and lower blepharoplasty. Although these procedures can be performed under local anesthesia, various degrees of apprehension is normal before such a surgery. General anesthesia ('totally asleep" with intubation), although possible, seems a bit much for such a procedure. 

The twilight anesthesia can be very deep as well where you can be relaxed and not even remember most of the surgery. You should make your surgeon aware of your apprehension and let her/him decide what will be best in your case. RegardsDr J

A blepharoplasty is done to remove or reposition the tissue around the eyes to improve the way they look. This can involve removing excess eyelid skin, removing or repositioning the underlying orbital fat, and possibly tightening or repositioning the lid margin. 
A conservative lower lid lift can be done in the office under local or in the OR under MAC (twilight anesthesia). For patients who are nervous about the procedure, however, I prefer to have them totally relaxed and asleep. It makes for a more predictable and less strees inducing experience for all.

Hello,IV sedation provides a cocktail of medications that make you sleepy, make time pass very quickly and cause you to forget the procedure. You will essentially be breathing on your own but very comfortable. This is a great  way to do the procedure.

A blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery can be done with either IV sedation (twilight)  or, my preference, general anesthesia.  All patients have a degree of anxiety which is not felt once asleep.  With them totally asleep the lids are injected with lidocaine or a numbing liquid so that the general anesthesia can be light and the patient's oxygen level maintained at a high level. You are monitored throughout the procedure to ensure your comfort and to maintain a light but adequate level of sleep.  Patients find being put to sleep more comforting.  They do not hear or feel anything and awaken fairly rapidly in the recovery room.
